The New Cottage

Chapter 10

I dumped the clothes in the box.

Not a single thought to it.

Sirius raised an eyebrow at me.

"I'm not folding them," I said stubbornly.

"You have to," said Sirius with a grin. "They won't fit."

"They will if I charm the box," I said with an equally mischievous grin. "Capacious Extremis." I pointed my wand at the box.

Nothing happened.

"Beautiful magic," said Sirius, applauding me mockingly.

"Shut up," I retorted. "You can only see it from the inside."

I walked up the the box and opened it. "Ha!" I said, pointing to it. "Everything'll fit in there now. Though I have no idea how big it is..."

Sirius snickered. "Let's add this to the list of why you aren't a Ravenclaw."

I scoffed. "I could find a million reasons as to why YOU'RE not a Ravenclaw."

Sirius gasped mockingly. "How- how dare you?"

I grinned widely at him and went back to throwing my clothes into the box.

A/n: YEET-

Sirius sighed and went back to shuffling a pile of papers. "ARGH!" he yelped. "These are so annoying!"

I walked over to him. "It's paperwork, Sirius, you have to write your name on it. That's it."

"It's asking me what we do for work!"

I snorted. "Maybe we should get a job."

"What'll we do?" asked Sirius seriously.

I shrugged. "I just told McGonagall on career discussion day that I wanted to try as a Healer. Then I failed Potions. So... no."

"I could totally go as a pro Quidditch Beater," remarked Sirius.

I scoffed. "You hit the Bludger towards our Seeker. And," I added sassily. "You did it in our 7th year. You joined the team in your 3rd year. Of course, that didn't help your big ego-"

"There she goes again, insulting my ego!" complained Sirius.

"STOP BICKERING!" shrieked Lily's shrill voice from downstairs the Potter Manor. "AND PACK ALREADY!"

Sirius and I blinked at each other and stuffed our clothes, books, and everything else into the expandable box.

"We can sort it later," remarked Sirius. "Lily might murder us if we don't hurry."

I nodded swiftly in agreement and threw a picture frame down the box.

A glass clink echoed in the distance.

We stared down the box abyss.

"It's fine," I assured Sirius. "The frame had a picture of you. It's not important."

"Hey!"

"PACK!" shouted Lily again.

We did as she said, not wanting a slow and painful murder.

Sirius picked up a scrapbook and was about to throw it into the box abyss when I stuck a hand in front of him.

"Not that!" I hissed. "That one's going in my good suitcase."

Sirius raised an eyebrow, but didn't inquire as to what the scrapbook was.

We scrambled to pile the rest of our stuff in the expandable box and our sutcases.

Sirius, being rubbish at Charms, didn't do anything to the luggage, but I cast a simple Weightlessness charm on the baggage and threw it down the staircase haphazardly.

I heard Lily shriek.

"Our time's up!" yelped Sirius and dashed down the staircase.

"Wait for me!" I ran behind him quickly.

We were awaited at the bottom of the stairs with an annoyed Lily Evans and a pile of bags and the floating box.

"Why is the box floating?" I asked out loud.

"How should I know?" Lily snapped, a little annoyed.

"I think you cast the Weightlessness Charm a bit too strong," muttered Sirius.

"You think?" said a now very annoyed Lily.

"Whoa, calm down, Mrs Potter," said Sirius, holding his hands out.

Lily blushed suddenly at this. "About that..."

My jaw dropped. "LILY!"

Lily turned as red as her hair. "I know I'm 18, Mar, but he asked me last night and, well, I thought I should accept it. He... he's been the best, really. Better than I ever imagined."

"I'm confused," said Sirius loudly.

"Glad to know nothing's changed," I remarked coolly to Sirius.

"What happened?" he asked, ignoring my comment.

"I'm engaged," muttered Lily, fingering a shiny object on her left hand.

"To who?"

"Sirius!" I yelped.

"It's a reasonable question, Marls," he shrugged. "I mean... James? The arrogant little toe-rag? Lily's exact words, by the way."

"He's changed," said Lily simply, and turned to the floating luggage. "Well, I suppose we ought to get these to the cottage."

They all grabbed the luggage and Apparated to the cottage.

I squealed. "We're gonna be living here, Sirius! No annoying James always coming upstairs when I'm trying to read! And no annoying Lily asking me what she should wear on her night out!"

Sirius and I fist-bumped and Lily glared at us.

"You'd already be dead if you weren't my best friends," she said quietly, but we all heard her well enough.

As soon as Lily helped Sirius and I lug the baggage inside, she hugged the both of us and Apparated back to her house to pack for herself (she told that she planned to move to a placr in Godric's Hollow with James...).

Sirius and I started unpacking our stuff.

While Sirius started placing everything back manually, I grinned and used my wand to make everything fold and slide into it's place in the house.

Sirius glared at me. "That's cheating."

"It's called intelligence, love," I grinned at him. "Try having some once in a while."

He squinted at me.

I squinted back.

Then we had a staring contest.

Because smart graduates who know what they're doing with their life totally do that all the time.

After we got everything settled, it felt very homey.

We had gotten a couch and even a small TV near our fireplace.

So being adults, we sat down and watched Back to the Future while chomping down popcorn.

Sirius leaned onto my shoulder comfortably.

I leaned my head onto his.

And the both of us definitely felt just at home.

I know it Back To The Future hadn't come out then, but Back to the Future rules and it would totally be Marlene and Sirius' fav movie...

Anyways, thanks so much for reading! Love you all so much! :)
