Chapter One
A/N: Hi everyone, thank you so much for checking out Enchanted! This is going to be interesting since I haven’t written like this for years, but hopefully this is enjoyable! I know I have a clear ending but if there is anything that anyone wants to see a part of this fic, let me know! This will delve between my own headcanons (but not too often) and actual canon, so fair warning of that. I will also try to have a song of the chapter that works well with theming, that’ll be noted before the chapter starts and will also be the title of the chapter, it will not only be songs from the 90s though. That's enough of my rambling, here's chapter one!!!
SOTC: Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (I know it’s cliche)
September 1st, 1994.
Allora was running terribly late, but to anyone who knew the girl, this was not shocking news in the slightest. Her poor Muggle mother Dana was the unfortunate individual who witnessed the sight of the near panic attack Allora had when she had realized she forgot her broom at The Leaky Cauldron. They were on a Muggle cab heading towards Kings Cross Station where Allora would embark on her journey towards her fourth year at Hogwarts, but her mother was starting to have doubts of sending her daughter back to school. Her father had warned her of the Death Eater threats of the Quidditch World Cup which nearly set her off, considering her knowledge of the past.
The cab halted to a stop in the most jerky way possible and he instantly haggled Dana for the fare of the trip. Allora stepped out and took a deep breath, looking at her watch to check the time. Allora’s eyes widened as she noticed how late it was getting and quickly loaded her trunks onto a nearby trolley.
“Mum! C’mon, it’s 10:39, I’m gonna miss my train and you won’t forgive yourself for the rest of the damn year if you don’t walk me to the platform!” Allora shouted at her mother who was still struggling to find some change in her coin purse. Allora rolled her eyes and reached into the pocket of her jacket, throwing some Muggle money onto the empty passenger seat, grabbing her mothers arm and ushering her away from the cab. The driver looked pleased at this amount, earning Allora a large cheshire cat-like grin as he rolled his window up, shouting a quick thanks.
“Allora,” her mother glared in her direction as she sharply said her name, “What the bloody hell was that!”
“Dunno what you’re talking about mum,” Allora shrugged, hoping her mother would brush off whatever her current annoyance was about, likely about her attitude or hurrying her mother along when she hates being rushed.
“You know what, nevermind, don’t wanna start a whole argument right before you leave me again for school.”
“Don’t gotta say that twice mum, let’s go, don’t know when the platform closes off and I am not going to find that out the hard way like Harry and Ron did a couple years ago.” Allora laughed at her own mention of that ridiculous situation. Speaking of those two, she was just glad to see them. She missed her friends dearly over the summer break and was honestly over the moon at the concept of being able to return to school. Being able to live on her own, dictating aspects of her own schedule, being able to play Quidditch; it was all she ever really could have hoped for once she learned that she was a witch.
They ran through the station, weaving between families teary goodbyes and businessmen in stuffy suits who grumbled as they ran past them as fast as they possibly could. They finally got to their stopping point between platforms 9 and 10 as they both let out a collective sigh and caught their breath from running. Allora checks her watch again and it reads back 10:47, showing it to her mother. Her mother pulls her in for a hug and kisses her on the forehead before letting off.
“Allora honey, write to me in a few months about your plans for break so I know if I need to plan for you coming home, okay?” Dana urges her daughter as her eyes widen. She holds up her index finger, convincing Allora to wait a moment for whatever her mother is doing, as she pulls a package from her satchel, wrapped in brown paper and tied together in an emerald green string. Allora hesitantly takes the package from her hand until she notices a small envelope on the bag addressed to her from her father, who is away on some sort of business, the subject of said business is nothing but a mystery to her.
Allora thanks her mother and waves goodbye to her after she places the package in her already filled trunk. This is something she can at least look forward to later considering she has zero clue what her father has sent to her. With her farewell to her mother all said and done, she lines up the trolley with the solid metal barrier that has her destination on the other side of it. She takes a deep breath as she runs through the barrier, transporting her instantly to the other side. She took a minute to take in the sight, even though it was her fourth time doing so it was still as magical as the first time. The massive red and black train was on the tracks to her left and in front of her, crowds of parents and students alike all exchanging their goodbyes. A bit down the platform she spotted Molly and Arthur Weasley alone, meaning their children and likely Harry and Hermione have already gotten a compartment on the train. She briskly walked over to them and as soon as Allora was in view of Molly, you could see the visible excitement on her face.
“Oh Lora, my sweet girl! How was your summer?!’ she engulfed Allora into a massive hug, nearly squeezing the breath out of her.
“Molly, for Merlin's sake let the poor girl breathe, I know she’s a Slyhterin but that doesn’t mean you have to suffocate her on sight!” Arthur joked at his wife and her overly affectionate greetings towards their children's friend. Allora chuckled at his comment and pulled a package out of her bag, handing it to Arthur. He spared no time tearing it open and he looked like he was overcome with joy when he realized that the object in his hand was a brand new, bright yellow rubber duck. That earned her a hug from the usually less affectionate half of this couple.
This moment stopped a bit too abruptly with the conductor hollering “All aboard!” causing Allora to perk up and shout out her goodbyes to the Weasleys, running over to the luggage drop off with her trolley and leaving it with the usual wizard in charge of loading everything up. She hopped on the train before it could have the chance to leave her behind as she searched for her friends.
She walked down the aisle way of the train as it started to move, jolting Allora forward for a moment. She passed various compartments full of other students until she heard a laugh she could recognize from a mile away, that damn Weasley laugh. It's never hard to figure out where Fred and George are so she followed the sound until she saw the twins and lucky for her; Harry, Ron and Hermione as well. She opened the door, which startled the group for a moment until they realized who it was.
“Oh Lora, how lovely for you to join us!” Hermione exclaimed, getting up to hug her friend before Fred stopped her, staring at her and leaning over to whisper something frantically at her. George looked up at Allora and smiled at her, giving her butterflies almost instantly. She was plagued with the secret that as far as she is concerned, is being taken to her grave. She vowed to herself that when she made friends with the students from other houses that she would never find herself falling for one of her friends, but she simply cannot get George Weasley out of her head.
“Hey there Lora, sit next to me.” George said to her and Allora wasted no time doing just that, especially since the only empty seat happened to be next to her crush. She settled in as the group shared the horrific stories of the attacks from the Quidditch World Cup that left Allora wide eyed and almost a bit horrified at the turn of events. Even though all of this was happening, she still couldn't help her focus on George.
The train ride passes in a blink between storytelling, prank planning between Allora and the twins and the massive array of snacks the group pulled together. Time flew so fast that they did not realize that they were pulling into Hogwarts and had to get their uniforms on fast. They all moved to whatever restroom they could find to change and met up outside the train, walking over to the carriages to be transported to Hogwarts. It was always so interesting to the group that the carriages pulled themselves.
They got up to the castle and Allora had to separate from the group in order to run her bag and train clothes down to the Slytherin dormitory. It wouldn't be until tomorrow before she saw the trio but it would likely be a bit longer before she saw the twins. Quidditch and classes really clashed for them seeing as they were in different houses a year apart, but Allora was assured that she was invited to the first party Gryffindor decides to throw this year since she's finally a fourth year. This concept made her excited for this year. She was one of the few Slytherins that students in each house were friends with and fourth year is the point where students are invited to any party at any house as long as they have a friend in said house. The Gryfindor parties were known to be wild too, just like the American Muggle house parties in the Muggle movies.
Once she got down to her room, she plopped on the bed while her other roommates had arrived. She was one of the more fortunate students who only had two other roommates which meant they had more space for themselves and Allora considered this to be a blessing. They were on the more interesting side, but this didn’t make them bad roommates by all means.
The first of the two was Cassia Fawley and before Allora got the chance to even say hello, Cassia was already by the window lighting a cigarette, a habit she picked up over Christmas last year visiting France. Her second roommate was Ingrid Avery, who struck up a small conversation about this year's Quidditch trials and if Allora thought she had a chance of making starters again for the Beater position. After the short lived greetings of her roommates, she unpacked for a few moments, knowing that they would have to report to the Great Hall soon for the feast. She opened her trunk and noticed the package she was given by her mother before she left for school, deciding to wait until she fully unpacked tomorrow night to open it, leaving for the Great Hall for dinner.
