Hooked on a Feeling

Chapter 31

TW AND CW: heavy cursing

Ana was pissed off at Remus.

She was pissed off at Sirius and James more, but Remus too.

"You just sat there and did nothing!" said Ana indignantly, crossing her arms.

They were standing in Ana's dorm, and Ivy and Sage had run out 15 minutes ago, clearly sensing a row.

"What was I supposed to do?" Remus snapped back.

"I dunno, maybe make them see sense?" retorted Ana, nostrils flaring.

"I can't control them!" said Remus. "They wouldn't have listened, and you know it!"

"I know that," Ana hissed. "But you could have tried, at least! You're a prefect!"

"You are too!'

Ana shut her eyes tight and flopped down onto her bunk. "Look... I hate arguing with you, Rem. Lily and James have had a talk about it, they're feeling much better, the both of them, and Sirius and Marlene have been having their own talking sessions to dicuss it together. They're trying to find out what they did wrong, they're trying to fix it. But... Remus... just tell me the truth. Please. Why didn't you just talk to them?"

The 'Snape' incident had left everyone in a shock. It was honestly surprising how quickly Lily seemed to have recovered.

But Sirius was still locked up in his dormitory, refusing to come out, even though Marlene managed to sneak in sometimes to give him some consoling words.

Remus threw himself down onto the carpet and tucked his head in between his knees.

"I didn't talk to them because I didn't want to lose them," said Remus, quieter than Ana had ever heard him. "They're the only ones who've accepted me. Everywhere else, people have kicked me out of schools and stores and all kinds of other places. But they understand."

Ana was silent for a second. "Remus..." She looked up at him, bright brown eyes sparkling with love. "They could never hate you. They cave up their literal talking abilities for a month so they could become Animagi for you. Whatever happened, they could never stop loving you. You guys are like brothers."

Ana slid off of the bed and pulled Remus into a hug. "I'm sorry for what I said. I was being a bitch."

"I was too," sighed Remus into the hug, rubbing Ana's back. "I'm sorry."

"Cringe," said one of the 7th years, leaning against the doorframe and yawning.

Ana pulled out her wand from her wand pocket and waved it at the 7th year. "Get out."

"Goodness, I was just stopping b-"

"Get out."

The 7th year raised their hands in defeat and walked away.

Ana scoffed and lowered her wand. "What a-"

Remus cleared his throat. "There are first-years downstairs who would love nothing more than to hear you on a cussing spree."

"What the hell is a cussing spree?'

"You know, when you start telling inanimate objects to go fuck themselves, that's when I know that I'm friends with a crazy person."

Ana rolled her eyes slightly. "Helga," she grumbled. "Oh, er- you wanna read?!

Remus nodded eagerly. "After that row, Ivy and Sage won't even bothering coming here until midnight.

~…~…~…~…~…~…~…~…~…~…~…~…~…

Ana shut the book and yawned.

They were curled up on the Hufflepuff common room's plump and cushy sofa.

"You wanna go to bed?" asked Ana, stretching. "I'm tired as shit."

Remus yawned and nodded, glancing around the common room. "I am too."

He stood up and brushed off his robes. "I should head back to my common room. See ya, A- what song's playing on the gramophone?!"

Remus was staring at the gramophone that was placed on top of the table next to the fireplace.

Ana blinked in confusion. "Hooked on a Feeling."

Remus squealed quietly and Ana held in a snort. "Supposing it's your favorite song or something?"

"It is!" said Remus happily. "It's like no one knows it!"

"It's an awesome song!" gasped Ana. "How does no one know it?"

"Thank you!"

"I can't stop this feeling," Ana started singing under her breath. "Deep inside of me-"

"Girl, you just don't realize," Remus joined in quietly. "What you do to me-"

"When you hold me so tight," they sang in unison. "In your arms so tight, you let me know that everythings alright. Ah-ah-ah-ah-ahhhhhhh-"

"Hooked on a feeling!" Ana belted out, trying her best to stay quiet and not wake up the sleeping students upstairs.

"I'm high on believin'!" Remus sang, as quiet as possible.

"That you're in love with meeeeeeeeee-" they sang together.

"We make a good duet," noted Remus, running a hand through his light brown hair.

"We do," said Ana with a grin, bright brown eyes sparkling.

They flopped back onto the couch at the same time.

"How are you, An?" asked Remus quietly.

"Much better than I thought I would be," said Ana, looking down at her shoes. "I know I can't ever see her again, but... my brain just hasn't figured that out yet. That pang hasn't hit just yet."

Remus nodded. "Do you want to talk about it?"

Ana shook her head. "Not now. I don't think I'm ready for a conversation about it yet."

"Ok," said Remus quietly.

A pause of silence.

"Come on, get up," said Remus, stretching his hand out to her.

Ana raised an eyebrow. "Wha-"

"Come on."

Ana stood up in confusion and took Remus' hand.

"Do you know how to dance?" asked Remus.

"Of course I know how to- oh, no, no, noooooo," said Ana, stepping back. "No dancing for me. I'm horrid at it."

"You just told me you can dance."

"I never said I was good."

Remus added nothing to contribute to the conversation except for grasping Ana's shoulder gently, and with a light push, he started dancing smoothly to the music playing.

Ana snorted. "Waltzing to a rock song?"

"Hey, James and Sirius disco danced to a waltz," said Remus defensively. "Don't blame me if those two have been a bad influence."

"Sometimes I think you've been the bad influence on them!"

Remus scoffed. "If anyone, you've been the bad influence! Always teaching them how to dance, sing, and prank people. You're the secret reason they're like this!"

"Do you see me denying it?"

"No."

"Dang, I think you need glasses."

Remus' jaw dropped. "Did you just-"

"I did."

"You just-"

"Yup."

"Why d'you have to be so meeeaaaaaaaannnnn-"

Ana just rolled his eyes playfully and she could feel herself going slightly red at their close proximity. "Er- we ought to head to bed."

Remus cleared his throat. "Yeah. Er... good night, Ana."

He leaned down, spindly arms tucked behind him, and pecked Ana on the cheek.

And Remus left the Hufflepuff common room, without another word.
