The Alihotsy Leaves (Part Two)
Chapter 27
TW AND CW: mentions of death
When Ana woke up, she was still clutching the letter loosely in her hand and Remus was snoring next to her.
Not wanting to wake up Remus, she got up slowly and looked around.
The common room was empty and silent, except for the blazing fire blowing ashes around.
Ana checked her watch. 4:00 in the morning.
She did not feel like going back to sleep.
Instead, Ana picked up the envelope in which the letter had come in and peeked inside it.
There was a small gold necklace.
A/N: link to the necklace:
Ana picked it up carefully and placed it on her palm.
It had the delicate design of a compass.
Ana bit her lower lip. Why would her mother leave her this? Ana felt a sort of drawing to the necklace, but didn't act on it much.
She raised her wavy brown hair up and clicked the necklace in place, pushing it out of sight underneath her robes.
Ana knew Dumbledore wouldn't be awake yet, but she knew she had to go soon.
Tip-toeing out of the common room silently, she glided across the corridors to Professor McGonagall's office.
She knocked gently.
"Who is it?" McGonagall asked with a wavery tone.
"It's me, Professor," said Ana lightly, trying to put happiness into her voice. "Ana Miracle."
Professor McGonagall didn't waste a second. She strode over and opened the door, engulfing Ana in a gentle hug.
"I heard the news, Miss Miracle," said McGonagall gently. "If you need anything, my office is always open."
"Thank you, Professor," said Ana, trying to stop her hands from shaking behind her back. "But I'm here for Professor Dumbledore. The Ministry informed me that I needed to speak to him as soon as possible."
"At 4:00 in the morning?" questioned McGonagall, still in her dark blue nightgown. "Miss Miracle, I understand your urgency, but-"
"But I have to," Ana said as clear as she could muster. "It's too important to put off."
"You'll have to wait a while until he wakes up, Miss Miracle," said McGonagall. "Stay in the Gryffindor common room for a while and I'll come get you when he wakes up, alright?"
Ana hesitated. "Alright, fine."
"And don't come saying you don't know where the common room is," said McGonagall with a smile twitching at the corner of her lips. "You've certainly been there multiple times with Mr. Lupin."
Ana nodded. "Er- yes, Professor, I go with him to study there often."
"Alright," said McGonagall, a small twinkle in her eyes. "Go sleep a little. I'll see you later today."
McGonagall closed the office door.
~…~…~…~…~…~…~…~…~…~
Ana entered the still quiet common room.
One thing had changed, though.
Remus was awake.
He turned up at the sound of her footsteps. "There you are!" he said quietly. "I was getting worried. Where were you?"
"Seeing if Dumbledore was awake," Ana mumbled.
Remus blinked. "What's your favorite book, An?"
"Er- what?"
"What's your favorite book?"
"Little Women," said Ana slowly, unsure of what was going on.
Remus snapped his fingers. "Luckily, I have that one. Accio book," said Remus pulling out his wand and pointing it towards his dorm.
A book came flying downstairs and right into Remus' hands. "Come on," he said, patting the spot next to him on the couch. "Let's read a little."
Ana mustered a small smile. "Thanks, Rem, it means a lo-" She paused.
"An?" said Remus urgently. "Ana? What's wrong?"
"Avery, Mulciber, and Rosier," she whispered. "How did they know about Mum before even Dumbledore and McGonagall found out?"
Remus paused too. "You don't think...?"
"That they knew Mum had an Alihotsy allergy?" clarified Ana. "I think they did. Or at least the Death Eaters did," Ana spat.
"You're saying these guys are Death Eaters?" said Remus.
Ana nodded. "I think they are. No one knows about a murder before it happens unless they're the one committing it."
Remus nodded firmly, placing Little Women back onto the yable a nd running a hand through his curly brown hair. "I think you ought to tell Dumbledore later when you go talk to him. He needs to know about this."
"I know," said Ana simply. "I'm pissed off too, but we've gotta do something to pass the time until Dumbledore wakes up."
Remus nodded and smiled slightly. "Then let's spend our quality time reading your favorite book.
I can't say i'm happy about this chapter honestly :(
