The Alihotsy Leaves (Part One)
Chapter 26
TW AND CW: mentions of death, crying
A/N: just a general sad feeling about this chapter :(
And it's a short one too, just letting you guys know
Ana unfolded the scroll that the owl had dropped on their table in the Gryffindor common room, Remus peeking over her shoulder.
"What is it?" he asked.
"Dunno," shrugged Ana, unfurling it slowly.
As both she and Remus read through the letter, both their expressions hardened and their faces became pale.
Dear Annie Alwena Miracle,
We regret to inform you that your parent/guardian Alwena Miracle, has passed away from severe Alihotsy poisoning. From our understanding, she seemed to have an allergy to the plant of Alihotsy. St. Mungo's healers will inform you, if you were to visit them, that they tried their best to see to Miss Miracle's health, but they believe she just got the short end of the stick.
Your mother's will states that her house will go to your godfather, Arnie Loughty. Also stated on her will is that in the event that she passes, you are to go to Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore and inform him of something she referred to as 'the changing', and the professor will instruct you from there about where you are to stay during the holidays.
Only one item was enclosed in her will for you. It is included in the envelope this came in.
We hope you feel better, and we sympathize with you for your loss. The Ministry offers grief counselors if you wish to speak with someone about this.
Thank you for your time, Artemisia Lufkin
Ana's hands shook slightly. "This was the news they were talking about. The Slytherins. This was it. Helga, I told her to not stay around Alihotsy leaves." Her voice wavered.
Remus wrapped his arms around her tightly, and Ana melted right into the hug.
"I'm so sorry," whispered Remus. "I- hey, An. Look at me. Look at me." He tilted her chin upwards so her eyes stared into his. "Your mother was the most wonderful person ever. She made the world brighter by simply being herself."
Ana's eyes were now welling with tears as she furiously tried to keep them down.
"Come here," said Remus, gesturing for her to come sit on the couch.
Ana sat down, stiff as a board, not saying a single word.
"It's ok to cry," said Remus softly.
And at that, Ana broke down into heartbreaking, heartwrenching, tears.
Remus held her in another hug, and Ana sobbed openly onto Remus' sweater as he rubbed her back gently.
After a while, Ana's sobs died down and she started snoring quietly in Remus' arms.
Remus checked the time. 10:50.
He wasn't going to make Ana go back to her common room, she needed a proper sleep and some time to mull over things.
Pulling out his wand and quietly conjuring a enormous blanket, Remus laid it over the both of them.
Remus cuddled closer to Ana and pecked the top of her head gently.
"Goodnight, An," he whispered.
Remus shut his eyes and soon drifted into an uneasy sleep.
