Pride and Prejudice

Chapter 14

TW AND CW: heavy swearing, light mentions of drugs, mature jokes

Remus sat down next to Ana. "Using your free period in the Gryffindor common room?"

"Yup," said Ana, popping the 'p'. "Thought I'd come here to read with you. I just got a new book!"

Remus grinned. "Which one?"

"Pride and Prejudice."

"You never struck me as the romance type, An," said Remus with a smirk.

"Well, it's a good book!" protested Ana. "At least it doesn't have any shitty romance plots like YOUR LIFE."

Remus blinked.

James, Peter, and Sirius howled with laughter from nearby.

"She roasted you HARD, Moony!" wheezed James.

"Shut up."

"Speaking of shitty romance plots," continued Remus loudly. "How's it going with Lily, James?"

"You're not a werewolf, Rem," muttered Ana quiet enough that only Remus could hear her. "You're a swearwolf."

Remus snorted. "Best joke I've ever heard in my lifetime."

Ana rolled her eyes playfully. "Are we reading or not?"

"Alright, alright," sighed Remus. "Open the book."

Ana grinned widely as she cracked open the book to the first page.

They sat together on the couch, shoulders almost touching, book laying on each of their laps.

All that could be heard were the happy laughs of James, Peter, and Sirius, and the crackle of the warm fire.

The laughter died down, and Ana heard their footsteps subsiding upstairs.

After around 15 minutes of silent reading, Ana suddenly heard a loud click.

Her head snapped up.

"James!" she said.

James was standing there with a grin, holding in his hands a polaroid camera that had just taken a picture of Remus and Ana reading together.

"For Godric's sake, James," groaned Remus. "Let us read! We're on the part where we meet annoying Mr. Darcy!"

James blinked. "And here I was actually thinking that you detested shitty romance plots. Apparently not." He ran upstairs with the polaroid in his hands.

Ana was about to run after him until Remus grasped her arm and said, "That idiot's not worth it. He's probably set up Anti-Ana-and-Remus traps all over the dorms so we don't steal all his polaroids."

"He takes a lot of polaroids?" questioned Ana.

"A lot," said Remus.

They turned back to their book.

After around 5 minutes, Ana looked up.

"Do you think Professor Sprout sells students pot?" she questioned out loud.

Remus choked on air. "Sorry?"

"I said, 'Do you think Professor Sprout sells students pot?"

"Ana," said Remus seriously. "What the actual fuck."

"It's a deliberate questio-"

"No."

"Bu-"

"Nope."

"But does she-"

"Seriously Ana, where the hell do you get these ideas?" sighed Remus.

"Probably James and Sirius," said Ana. "They have a lot of weird conspiracy theories."

"I know," clarified Remus. "I've- unfortunately- lived with them for 5 years. In the same room."

"Remus, you do realize how absolutely wrong that sounds?"

"Now that you mention it, I do."

"ANAMUS FOR LIFE!" chimed in a screaming Sirius from upstairs in the boys dorm.

"KINDLY SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Ana shrieked back.

A couple of first years gaped.

"She's just- er-" Remus tried to help.

"Girl stuff," sighed Ana convincingly. "Messes a lot with my mood, y'know?"

The first years nodded sympathetically and turned back to chatting with each other.

"You're a devil," said Remus, shaking his head.

Ana flipped her hair mockingly. "It's my specialty."

They turned back to reading the book, but Remus wasn't paying much attention to the book itself.

She's wonderful, isn't she? he thought to himself. Really nice and pretty and all. Wait... why am I thinking like this?! She's your best friend, you git! Shut up!

Remus shook himself out of his thoughts and tried hard to focus on the book.

Normally that was an easy task for him.

But now...

Remus, he thought to himself angrily. Stop thinking like this! Ana's your best friend and nothing more! She stated herself that they were friends. JUST friends.

"You alright, Rem?" asked Ana, bumping Remus' thoughts out of his head. "You seem a bit... off."

"I'm alright."

"Ok..."

She didn't press the matter.

Remus blinked and gazed at her intent face.

Her light, chocolate brown eyes sparkled with interest.

Her genuinely happy and excited face glinted with enthusiasm.

That's it, thought Remus, ending the argument with his brain. I think I might actually... like Ana.

Hope you guys enjoyed the chapter! :) thx for all the reads and once again, feel free to drop any suggestions for a new fanfic.

I'll keep it in mind after I finish one of my current ones. Right now I just finished writing the Blackinnon series and am continuing on to a Solangelo (percy jackson) fanfic that'll be released next friday. Hope you guys'll like it!

Love, Jui W.
