Chapter 2
Sage awakes to Pansy shaking her. “Finally you’re up. Get ready we’re going to meet the boys at breakfast before we go to class,” Pansy says.
“Well, good morning to you too,” Sage says as Pansy walks to her side of the room. She does as she’s told and does her morning routine and changes into her new uniform.
“Finally you’re done. Come in let’s go they’re waiting,” Pansy says grabbing her hand and dragging Sage out of the door.
They make it to the Great Hall and sit at their house table, Pansy next to Draco and Blaise and Sage in the middle of Mattheo and Lorenzo.
“Good morning,” Sage says to everyone. “Sleep well for your first night,” Mattheo asks her with a small smile. Sage nods and starts to put some food on her plate.
“What are you’re first periods today,” Pansy asks all of them. Almost immediately they look at their schedules.
“I have Transfiguration,” both Lorenzo and Theodore say. “Divination,” say Tom with a sigh. “Blaise, Pansy, and I have Potions,” says Draco putting an arm around Pansy.
Mattheo looks at Sage’s schedule and says, “we have Defense Against the Dark Arts together. Oh, we have all of our classes together.”
“That’s good. Now I will have someone I know with me,” she replies. “Well we should probably head to class if we don’t want to be late. See you all later,” Pansy says standing up and dragging Draco and Blaise behind her out of the Great Hall.
“She’s right. Let’s go,” Mattheo says also standing up. They exit the Great Hall with Sage waving bye at the rest of her new found friends.

They eventually reach the DADA room and sit together near the back. Sage noticed a girl with bushy hair looking at her. She lightly waves and Sage returns the gesture.
“Heh hem. Good morning class,” exclaims Umbridge. When she doesn’t get a response she says, “Let’s try that again shall we. Good morning class!” Everyone mutters a good morning to her and she seems satisfied.
She does a quick lecture on our upcoming O.W.L.s and with a flick of her wand, Umbridge distributes a book titled, ‘Dark Arts Defense: Basics for Beginners.’
Everyone does a quick look through the book and the girl with the bushy hair raises her hand.
“Yes,” Umbridge says turning to her. “There’s nothing in here about using defensive spells,” she says. Umbridge does a very high pitched laugh and replies with, “using spells? Well I can’t imagine why you would need to use spells in my class room.”
Sage’s face turns to that of confusion and she turns to Mattheo. “We don’t use spells here?” He looks at her and whispers, “usually we do. This is different this year for some reason.”
A boy with red hair says what everyone is thinking, “we’re not going to be using magic?”
“You will be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk free way,” she says earning an eye roll from Sage.
“Well what use is that? If we’re going to be attacked it won’t be risk free,” says a boy who Sage recognizes as Harry Potter.
Umbridge turns around and sharply says, “students will raise their hands when the speak in my class. It is the view of the Ministry that a theoretical knowledge will be will be sufficient enough to get you through your examinations, which after all is what school is all about.”
Sage raises her hand. “Yes,” Umbridge asks. “I don’t understand. The whole point of this class is supposed to be to teach us how to defend ourselves from danger. And what, you’re saying that we won’t be using the magic we need to learn to protect ourselves?”
“Who do you think will want to attack young children such as yourselves, dear,” Umbridge asks.
Harry speaks again this time. “Oh I don’t know maybe, Lord Voldemort.” Several gasps are heard around the room and Sage feels Mattheo stiffen up next to her.
Professor Umbridge starts to look frustrated as she says, “let me make this quite clear. You have been told a certain dark wizard is back. This. Is. A. Lie.”
“It’s not a lie! I saw him, I fought him,” Harry exclaims. “Detention, Mr. Potter!”
“So according to you Cedric Diggory dropped dead on his own accord,” says Harry. Sage turns to Mattheo in concern.
“What the heck happened last year,” she asks him. Mattheo just shakes his head and says, “later.”
“Cedric Diggory’s death was a tragic accident,” says Umbridge. “It was murder! Voldemort killed him! You must know that,” exclaims Harry.
“Enough! Enough. See me later, Mr. Potter. My office,” she says with her obnoxiously high pitched giggle.

The rest of class went by rather awkwardly and silently. As soon as the bell rang everyone rushed out of class.
“Mattheo, what happened last year,” Sage asked as the two of them walked towards their next class, Potions.
Mattheo quickly filled Sage in on the previous year’s events. “I hope this doesn’t change your opinion on me” he says once finished. Sage looks at him and asks, “why would it?”
Mattheo looks down awkwardly. “Because Voldemort is my father.” Sage shrugs and says, “I don’t care. You are a totally different person from your father by what I can tell.”
He smiles at her and they enter the Potions classroom.
Again they sit next to each other relatively close to the back. Snape comes in the dark classroom and starts to write on the chalkboard.
Sage zones out for most of the class as it is just lecturing on the O.W.L.s. Soon enough the bell rings again and everyone heads down to lunch.
“So how has your first day been,” Pansy asks Sage as her and Mattheo sit down. “Very…informational, I guess,” she says with a shrug.
“What do you mean,” Lorenzo asks her. “Potter and Umbridge got into it during class this morning and he yelled about…Voldemort…being back. And Sage just learned about all that happened last year. Also, we can’t use magic in DADA class anymore,” Mattheo explains.
Everyone just stares at Mattheo with wide eyes. “What do you mean we can’t use magic anymore?” Sage sighs and says, “Umbridge said something about a Ministry wanting us to practice magic in a “risk free” way. What even is this Ministry?”
The group looks at her confused for a second. “Oh I forgot, you aren’t from here. The Ministry of Magic is the government,” says Tom.
Realization dawns on everyone else’s face. “Sorry, we forgot,” Mattheo says. Sage shrugs it off and starts to eat her lunch.
Time skip to after all of their classes
After Sage is done with all of her classes, Mattheo and her head to the common room. Upon arriving, they find a note addressed to Sage.
“Oh it’s from Pansy. She said she has to do some extra work and won’t be able to give me the tour,” Sage says reading it.
“I don’t mind giving you a tour. Only if you’re comfortable with it of course,” Mattheo says.
Sage smiles and nods. “Sounds good.” They walk back out of the common room ignoring the rude remarks from the painting guarding it.
“So where to first,” Mattheo asks Sage turning to her. “Well I was wanting to go to the library if it’s ok with you. I’ve seen most of the castle today but not the library,” Sage says.
Mattheo smiles at her and says, “well right this way M’lady.” Sage playfully rolls her eyes at him and they start walking.
Once they get to the library, Sage’s eyes widen. “Oh my god it’s huge!” Mattheo lightly chuckles. “We can hang out in here for a bit. Do some homework if you want, just to get a head start,” he says.
Sage nods and they sit down at a table. After around 15 minutes filled with the sound of pens scratching on parchment and slight small talk, Mattheo groans.
“Are you ok,” Sage asks him. He nods and says, “I just can’t find the answer to Snape’s stupid question for the essay. I mean who even gives homework on the first day!”
Sage shrugs and moves closer to Mattheo trying to read the question. “Oh, it’s not that hard.” He deadpans at her, “Really? What did you get?”
He tries to look at her answers but she pushes his head away. “Nope. Figure it out yourself,” she says with a smirk. Mattheo glares at her before going back to his paper.
After a couple more minutes of Mattheo dramatically sighing, Sage rolls her eyes and helps him.
Once they were done with all of their homework, Sage checks the time. “Oh, crap we missed dinner. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to use up all of your time,” she says turning to him.
“It’s alright I wasn’t really hungry anyways. But we should probably head back to the common room before curfew,” he says gathering his stuff.
They walk back to the Slytherin dorms and when they enter the Gang spot them.
“Finally, I was beginning to think you two died,” exclaims Theodore. “Where were you,” Tom says not looking up from a book.
“Library. Pansy was supposed to take me but had something to do,” Sage explains. She sits on a chair near the fireplace and everyone goes back to what they were doing.
“I swear, that Umbridge not allowing us to use magic! Wait till my father here’s about this,” Draco says. Everyone rolls their eyes and groans. “How many times have we told you to stop saying that,” Mattheo asks him exasperated.
“Too many. I’ve lost count,” Draco responded with a shrug. Sage chuckles and pulls out a book she found in the library.
“I’m going to bed. I have Prefect duties in the morning,” Tom said standing up. “Ooh Mister Prefect going to bed early,” teases Draco. Tom rolls his eyes and flicks him off before going to his dorm.
The Gang hangs out for a little before everyone goes to their dorms. “Night everyone,” Sage says walking up the stairs.
