Here is my entry, enjoy!
Warning: contains spoilers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!
Severus Snape is a complicated and amazing character, and he has so many character developments and secrets, making him many people's favourite character, but what if I told you that he gives us a clue about his secret love for Lily in the first book! On page 146 of the Philosopher's Stone, Snape says to Harry: "Potter! What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?"
This question seems simple, and meaningless, but it is very much not! Asphodel is a type of Lily and symbolises remembering someone beyond death! Also, Wormwood symbolises regret or absense!
Is this just a coincidence? I think not! (pardon the pun). I think J.K. Rowling did this purposefully, as a subtle hint that Severus Snape is not what he seems.
