Interview
By Lurkelly Leikeze
This time, we invited Lurkelly Leikeze, a Ravenclaw 4th year student, who is a History of Magic PA. She gives us her experience of studying in HIH.
Q1: What's your favourite subject(s) in the real world and in HIH?
A1: When I attended school, Maths was always my favourite subject. However, outside of that, I had a particular interest in History. I detested the subject in school but loved it when I could freely explore parts that interested me. This passion has carried over onto HiH so it's no surprise that History of Magic is my favourite here. It's why I've been a member of the HoM PA Team for all these years.
Q2: What's your sequence of learning, do you finish one subject on HIH and then start another or you study several subjects at the same time?
A2: My usual method is to sign up for everything at once then work my way through each class from start to finish before moving onto the next one. I find this more helpful when it comes to Midterms and Finals.
Q3: Do you make notes?
A3: Not really, no. The closest I come to doing notes is when I'm in the planning stages of writing essays. I'll have the prompt in front of me, a list of bullet points of all the things I need to hit to get a 100 and then I'll make notes under each point. Then write my essay based on those when I'm happy I've covered everything I need to.
Q4: Do you do the optional homework?
A4: Yes, when I sign up for a class, I like to complete every assignment on offer. I didn't always do this, but nowadays I do. I find that the Extra Credit Assignments help you to understand the material better and even if I don't particularly enjoy a prompt, I'll do it anyway. I like to find creative ways to do things so I'll meet the criteria listed in the prompt, but do it in a fun way. I also tend to do a lot of external research to give my responses something extra. I put a lot of time and effort into what I produce and I'm proud of my work.
Q5: Do you want HIH to add any subjects?
A5: I haven't even finished what is currently on offer, never mind adding anything new!
Q6:Do you recommend any supplementary reading? What about study groups?
A6:I always recommend the textbooks if a class has them! I don't really take part in study groups.
Thank you, Lurkelly.
