I knew this person in the past,

they gave everyone this unforgettably warm smile as they walked past them.

they danced in the middle of the club like no one was watching.

I knew this person in the past,

they were constantly being told that their smile was one of the prettiest, making them smile even more.

I knew this person in the past,

but it turns out I didn't know them enough to see the heart-wrenching pain they hid behind the bright smile that never stopped. If only I had put in the effort to get to know them better and come to the realisation that this mesmerizing smile was never genuine, it was never real.. and the reason why I can't do anything about it is because this person belongs now to the past.
