Herbology Notes
NOTE: These notes alone won't get you an E or O, you do need to look over the actual lesson. Use these notes as a study tool for studying or completing OPEN book quizzes. Y3 L1-L9 notes are in the progress of being taken. For now, they are unedited so do expect some spelling and grammar mistakes until I fully revise them.

Y1 L7: Hazardous herbs
Chapter 7
Dangers of plants:
Plants pose many different dangers, that can be categorised as Wizardinf Herbs with Irritating or Perilous Specialties (W.H.I.P.S.) These classes ensure that witches and wizards can communicate regarding hazardous plants. Apart from class C, non magical plants aren't included in these categories. There are 6 classes, however the ministry is considering adding a 7th class.
Class A: Odorous
Plants which are in the odorous category release odors which can affect people, animals and other plants. There are three sub classes for this category.
- Level one: Immediate risk of death
- Level two: Could lead to death through repeated exposure
- Level three: Could cause paralysis, disorientation or sleep issues.
Class B: Physically Aggressive
Plants in Class B are physically aggressive and are able to cause damage when they are threatened or seeking food. These plants can havr strangulation, biting, cutting and pummeling abilities. An example of this is devil's snare, whose bite causes an infection. Dragon hide gloves are recommended to protect against these bites.
Class C: Toxic
Class C is the only class which includes non magical plants. These plants are able to be toxic to humans. The Ministry regulates the amount of these plants used in potions. They are categorised into 4 levels, based on their lethal dose. Level four plants are highly poisonous, whereas level one plants can be consumed raw. There are two types of toxic plants: those with toxic chemicals and those with venom. It is recommended to wear dragon hide gloves whilst dealing with plants from this class.
Class D: Infectious
Plants in class D are infectionous to both humans and animals. They can be classified into 2 subclasses: Naturally infectious, diseased.
Class E: Burning
Plants in Class E are classified as burning and can appose a huge threat. They can cause anywhere from low to high damage to skin and fur. Fire Seed Bushes are an example of a plant in Class E, as they can't be handled with dragon hide gloves.
Class F: Reactive
Class F refers to how plants are used in combination of other materials. The Ministry has strict regulations in terms of transporting these types of plants. An example of this is gun powder gloriosas, which are known to explode when exposed for sunlight for more than 3 hours a day.
