Herbology Notes
NOTE: These notes alone won't get you an E or O, you do need to look over the actual lesson. Use these notes as a study tool for studying or completing OPEN book quizzes. Y3 L1-L9 notes are in the progress of being taken. For now, they are unedited so do expect some spelling and grammar mistakes until I fully revise them.

Y1 L4: There’s magic in all of us
Chapter 4
Magic in the air:
Witches and wizards use both magical and non magical plants. In order for a plant to be considered magical, it must possess unique characteristics. When using a non magical plant in a potion, it gets enchanted by the magic. Magical plants can be more unpredictable in potions and therefore less safe, whereas non magical plants are more safe and predictable.
Let me count the ways:
Roses have various medicinal uses. Phliny the Elder discovered the rose and it's 39 uses. Unfortunately, we don't know whether or not he was a muggle, squid or wizard/witch. Roses help with coughing, colds, fevers and other ailments. They also have a good source of vitamin C, which can prevent scurvy.
There grows a rose:
When planting a rose shrub, ensure it is planted in soil that has a 5.0 to 7.0 PH. When it's in the dominant state, it will appear as nothing more than a pile of sticks. However, with proper planting and dragon dug fertiliser it grows quite quickly! Make sure to water the plants infrequently, in order to ensure strengthening of the roots. When tending to the rose, ensure you wear dragon hide gloves in order to protect yourself from the thorns.
