NOTE: These notes alone won't get you an E or O, you do need to look over the actual lesson. Use these notes as a study tool for studying or completing OPEN book quizzes. Y3 L1-L9 notes are in the progress of being taken. For now, they are unedited so do expect some spelling and grammar mistakes until I fully revise them.

Y3 L7: Rainforest Remedies

Chapter 26

Curanderas and More:
Those who practiced herbal medicine within South America were typically referred to as 'curanderas' or 'yerbateros.' Variants for these titles exsist for both genders. The main difference between these two titles is yerbateros being a more general term for those who possess the knowledge of herbal medicines, with curanderas being given to those with more advanced knowledge of herbs but also corresponding areas. Therefore, a muggle yerbatero would be more common than a currander. Central America have lots of similarities in terms of medicinal development and history with South America.

Andean Mint: Otherwise referred to as minthostachys mollis or mūna by natives of the Andes mountains, this perennial grows well in full sun, partial sun and partial shade with average watering conditions. The plant can be grown in pH levels between 5.5 to 8.0 with a need for colder tempreatures. Andean mint is typically used as a digestive aid in teas and other preparations. In the modern day, it is found in store bought potions now.  It could be found in Bumbulm's Trumpeting Tonic if combined with the right ingridents to promote flatulence and middling strength love potions.

Cacao: Theobroma cacao can grow from the sothermost parts of Mexico down to the Amazon. This tree prefers rich soil of a pH betweeen 5.0 to 7.5 full shade since it is used to growing under canopies within rainforests with moist soil. When growing in the greenhouse, you will need to stimulate the high humidity of the rainforest utalising specific spells. When harvesting the plant, begin with the pod rather than the seeds inside it. Cacao is best utalised without sweeteners in viality potions, select variants of the Wit-Sharpening Potion and preperations designed to increase alertness. In addition, it is a rich source of antioxidants and may have anti aging properties.

Coiling Trees: This magical tree which can be referred to as Ficus correpo recieved its distinct named from its seperant like qualities in various languages. Unfortuntaley not much is known about the growing requirements of this tree other than its high tempreatures needs due to its native terittory of the rainforest. It is an active ingredint in the only potion to reverse effects of carpal tunnel syndrome and is thought to be difficult to acquire.

Ipeacac: The Cephaelis ipecacuanha is grown in various other locations, alongside being taken to grow in Europe after colonisation. This shrub grows to around half a foot high with flowers in January and Feburary which happens to be the best time for harvesting this plant. This plant preers shaded, well drained areas with moist soil in a pH between 6.0 and 8.0. This evergreen's dried root is used in Sweating potions and fever treatments historically. It is rumoured that it is typically used within joke products too! As for warnings with this plant, it may cause immediate vomitting particularly when extracted into liquid form.
