NOTE: These notes alone won't get you an E or O, you do need to look over the actual lesson. Use these notes as a study tool for studying or completing OPEN book quizzes. Y3 L1-L9 notes are in the progress of being taken. For now, they are unedited so do expect some spelling and grammar mistakes until I fully revise them.

Y2 L8: Under the Seaweed

Chapter 18

Salt Specifics:

When growing plants which grow in salt water, using the correct ratios of salt to water is vital. For fully salty water, one ounce of salt should be added for every three gallons of water. Whereas for partciually salty water, 0.55 ounces of salt is required for every three gallons of water.

Propulsion Charm:

  • Incantation: Propulso (Pro-PUL-so)

  • Wand movement: Energetic tap

  • Willpower: Low

  • Concentration: Low

At the Bottom of the Deep, Blue Sea:

  • Manatee Grass: This grassy plant is located within warm, shallow areas such as the Gulf of Mexico. The plan should be grown in five to 10 foot deep clear water which recieves full sun. To plant the seeds, the Propulsion Charm can be used to propel them into the soil at around an inch deep. The pH level of the soil should be alkaline between 8.0- 8.5. Syringodium filiforme grows at quite a rapid speed and is able to reach a height of 20 inches. The grass can be dried and powdered so it can be used within potions which sterilize wounds.

  • Neptune Grass: Posidonia oceanica is a magical plant which grows within the shallow areas of the meditarranian, though it can flourish in deeper parts if certain conditions are presented! The plant requires partcial shade and can grow from 3-115 feet in depth. It is used in potions which promote longevity, beauty serums and sometimes aging potions.

  • Gremathea: Ascophyllum lentus is a magical plant which grows in the costal regions of England and Ireland. It grows in areas up to 15 feet deep and should be planted in acidic soil which has a pH level of 6.0- 6.5. The plant survives in both partcial shade and sunlight, however it can tolerate more sunlight if necessary. This plant is extremally sticky, and is a hazard for divers, sometimes causing fatal events. When storing parts of the plant, the Repelling Charm should be utalised, whilst wearing dragonhide gloves. The plant is utalised in medicinal products and potions, such as Odorous Concotions and Shouting Solutions.

  • Gillyweed: Giliac quatus can be grown in both fresh and salty water, but prefers its soil to be alkaline with a pH level of 7.8- 8.4. It can grow in full sunlight, shade and anywhere in between due to how adaptable it is. The leaves can be harvested at anytime, however repotting may be required due to how rapidly the roots grow! The most famous use of gillyweed is it's ability to allow breathing underwater, typically 45 minutes for freshwater and 1 hour and a half for salty water. It can also be used in salads and the roots can also be used to soothe headaches.
