Herbology Notes
NOTE: These notes alone won't get you an E or O, you do need to look over the actual lesson. Use these notes as a study tool for studying or completing OPEN book quizzes. Y3 L1-L9 notes are in the progress of being taken. For now, they are unedited so do expect some spelling and grammar mistakes until I fully revise them.

Y2 L1: Getting your hands dirty!
Chapter 11
Tips for planting:
When planting your plants, you should carefully consider the sunlight and soil quality. Magical solutions can be used to achieve these, however having a good understanding of plant specifics is also important. The pH balance can be achieved through the pH Detection Charm. In order to adjust soil adicity (below pH 7.0) use dragon dung or Acidity Augmenter. When increasing alkalinity (above pH 7.0) use Cresta's Certified Alkaline Fertaliser. Of course, there are muggle methods for this but magical methods are more effective. Mooncalf dung aids delicate plants without affecting the pH level of the soil. Use strategic placement or the darkening charm in order to manage the sunlight level.
The darkening charm:
- Incantation: Obscetus (Ob-SKEH-toos)
- Wand movement: Line drawn up the stem of a plant
- Will power: Low to high; depending on the number of plants and the area
- Concentration: Medium
Dandelion project:
This year we will be planting and managing our own dandelions. You are expected to turn in this project in Y3 L1 with a completed cover page, plant profile and diary.
Dandelion information:
Taraxacum magianale are perennial herbs found in different tempreture zones across the northen hemisphere They have yellow flowers and can grow anywhere between an inch and a foot in height. Their leaves, flowerds and rooots can all be utalised in various ways. They are rich in vitamin A, B, C, D, E and K. Their roots are normally used in liver related potions, where as the leaves are edible and the flowers can be used Anti-Swelling Solutions.
Planting:
Dandelions should be plamted in prime numbers. Water moderately after planting, in order to ensure drainage. They thrive in full sun but can also tolerate full shade. They can be planted in soil which has a pH level of 4.0-8.0.
Harvesting:
Gather dandelion leaves when they are 4-8 inches tall. The larger the leaves, the more bitter they will become. Harvest the fully open flower heads, avoiding the puffball seed stage.
