The Durmstrang Update Section
Chapter 4
“Hello! Welcome to Durmstrang Institute Of Magic, the academy that is opened for boys and girls!” Lisse Wildford said, a girl with brown hair and owl-like eyes.
“What’s up, everyone! I’m going to be one of your guides at Durmstrang - just for this issue, so don’t worry. However, before we get onto the tour, I must hand it over to the third guide of the day, who will speak about this layout and magazine!” Max Olypme added, his hair tousled and he grinned at the girl next to him.
“My name is Rose, and we are some students selected by Professor Brown to be assisting in running the Daily Prophet Weekly and the Hogwarts Prophet, and as this is our first issue, we will talk a lot about explaining and stuff like that. It is very exciting, I must say, I never thought that I could actually meet Hogwarts - it is very nice to meet you through a newspaper, and I wish that we could talk face to face. Unfortunately, that may not really be possible, but we want to talk about Durmstrang - our traditions, meals, games and houses (and all the top news really) and it even is not just for you - Durmstrang enjoy having a read of this themselves!” This was said very quickly by a girl with thin lips, narrowed eyes and a polite smile - Rose Patil.
The three students linked arms and walked hand in hand to the grand doors.
“Step in, friends.” Max said, and three pairs of feet clanked inside.
They came into the Great Hall. Thousands of candles and fires were stuck to the walls. It gave a sense of foreboding but all Durmstrang Students were milling about, not paying the slightest attention.
“Well, welcome! This is the main Hall, where we eat and normally have our assemblies - Karkoff runs them. I’ll tell you in secret - he is vicious and very very serious. Don’t ever crack a jock in front of him - or he will skin you alive!” Lisse said, looking around to check that no one heard. Rose grinned.
“Ah, Lisse, that’s exaggerating. If you are a model student, at Durmstrang, you will be swimming in glory, praises and awards. Durmstrang is a very competitive school.” She explained, nodding towards the hall.
“Indeed! We take part in many competitions, the most notable ones are the Triwizard Tournament, The Daily Prophet Journalism Group and others. We have a variety of students here, although all here are Pure-Bloods. Which brings us to Gossip time - we have some very, very….ahem, serious issues here, despite our wealthy reputation. I’ll hand over now to Elizabeth Moorewhen, or, as she is known as Lizzie. Over to you, Liz.” Max continued, and shook hands with a girl who had just come up to them. She had a mane of short, blonde hair that curled at the end and a determined face.
“Hello, dear readers, my name is Elizabeth Taylor Moorewhen and I am head of the campaign. The issue Durmstrang is facing is that the youngest generation of students are claiming to want to change the “only Pure-bloods” rule. We want Half-Bloods and Muggle-Borns here as well. As I have said, I am Head of the Campaign Of Blood Status, and as you may see, I have gathered a big list of people following.” Lizzie said, talking very seriously with a nod, as she showed a piece of paper which was full of signatures.
“This is proving a bit of a challenge, seeing that we still have a number of people disagreeing and most Professors are against this as well. And yes, I am walking straight into getting expelled, but to me, it is unimportant compared to this. I strongly believe in equality for all - and Karkoff will have to expel half of the school with the size of the protest.” Lizzie stopped and gave a harsh laugh.
“Well, thanks so much, Lizzie! This is definitely very serious - and please do find me number one member of that campaign of yours! My stepsister is Muggle-Born, and she is now unavailable to attend the same school. My parents are even thinking of transferring me to Hogwarts to Beauxbatons - Karkoff will just have to give in. Well, after this little piece of fascinating time, I think that we should leave the rest for the next Magazine Issue!” Lisse waved, a familiar grin painted on her face.
“Thank you to all the people watching and reading this - and we will be back in the next issue!” Max nodded and waved as well.
“I would like to remind you of all the people you have met so far in this journey though!
