Chapter 37

Lesson Five

Asia Pt 2- Steppes and China

Asian Steppes: A steppe is a geological ecoregion generally characterized by grassland plains, the absent of trees, and far from lakes and rivers. The largest of these is the Eurasian Steppe Belt, stretching from Moldova to Siberia. The Eurasian Belt has been a connecting force for Europe, Southern Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, and China for many years, economically, culturally, politically, and magically. The Asian Steppes are Xinjiang, Mongol Steppe, The Kazakh Steppe, and Manchuria.

Until 1978 magical historians didn't care much about the Huns. Robert Meddleweb (magical historian) came across the accounts of Anna Zakowsky (Muggle historian), stating that the Huns could apparate. However, Harrison Byproo (another wizard historian) disagreed with this theory.

China: Chinese witches and wizards are substantially ceremonial, using the taming of the Yellow River, which lead to the harmonization of China. Hé de fǎshī was the traditional names for the people who could keep the river from overflowing and flooding. Chinese magic was, much like the culture, controlled and stable. Very ritualistic, holistic, and cautious. This however, made it weak, leading to several invasions from the north. During the post-Warring States period, and the creation of legalism, Chinese officials got together to discus the threat of magic, and the council advised emperors for years to create anti-magical law and began to restrict the use of magic in China. When magic become regulated, the Hé de fǎshī were under government control, and within a 100 years it was completely illegal for

to be a witch or wizard in ancient Chinese society. Those that practiced magic were kept in the innermost circles of the Emperors, and often put into slavery.
