History Of Magic- Week Three
Chapter 35
Lesson Three
The Americas
Homework: Chapter Four
The Clovis: In 1933 Muggle archeologists named the first people to come to the Americas the "Clovis". Other magical historians, such as Utoipius Black, had already named them the Kaia-Vaha. In 1935, however, this term was dumped and and "The Clovis" became the general term. The Clovis were present all throughout the Americas but died out during what was known as The Mass Cooling. This was a climatic change that killed off many Muggle Clovis people. While witches and wizards could use warming charms, many muggles died of hypothermia.
The Olmec: The Olmec people had the first noted use of hierarchy. n the Olmec civilization witches and wizards made up the first two "classes" of society: the rulers and the shamans. This was just above the Muggle priests, while artisans, labourers, and farmers were even further beneath them. Olmec rulers were chosen to be representations of the gods, so when a young wizard showed his power, he would often become a ruler. This lead to magic influencing ancient cultures and religions, which led to wizards being very important. The Great Pyramid: This pyramid is in a pre-Columbian (or pre-historical American), archaeological site of La Venta, in Tobasco Mexico. Structures known as the Colossal Heads can still be found in places like La Venta. Another monument to the abilities of magical and Muggle collaboration, while wizards and witches would move the stone and enchant it, the Muggle artisans would carve and craft the stone and leave behind the remarkable statues we see today.
The Maya: This was a group of meso-american people living around the same time of the Olmec. While the Olmecs lived in South America, the Maya were concentrated in Central America. Early and Middle pre-classical Maya lived from 2,000 B.C.E. to 400 B.C.E. The Maya were one of the first people to form a village-orientated, learning how to plant and grow food. They used jade and obsidian, mainly for a form of divination. Without magic, none of these cultures would have an advanced writing system, a language, or the entire sociology.
