Defence Against The Dark Arts- Week Three

Chapter 19

Lesson Three

Dark Arts, Boogies, and Knickknacks

Dark Arts:Refers to any magic used to cause harm. Using dark magic rips the soul apart.

No laws make any dark magic spells illegal except for the Unforgivable Curses. The use of the three Unforgivable Curses will result in the user being sent to a life long stay inAzkaban Prison. During times of war, forever, it is harder of the Ministry to do its job and they might even overlook some uses.

Types of Dark Spells:

  • Jinx

  • Hex

  • Curse

Jinx: A jinx is the lowest form of a Dark Spell. It is more often than not used as practical jokes, and do not cause much harm. A Jinx can be prevented by simply placing an Anti-Jinx spell around yourself or an object. If one should be hit by a Jinx, they can be removed with a Counter-Jinx. Ex: Knockback Jinx.

Hex: Only slighter darker, they cause moderate discomfort and major inconvenience. A Hex can be reversed with a Hex Breaker. Ex: Bat-Bogey Hex.

Curse: Curses are the darkest and most extreme of the three. They cause the recipient extreme discomfort and/or pain, and are long lasting and can even end with death. You can block a curse using protective charms or counter curses. Lifting a curse, however, does not undo any prior damage. Ex: Curse of the Bogeys

Curse of the Bogeys: A curse that will causes the target to suffer an extreme cold. They will be stuck with an extremely runny nose (until it is lifted), and can cause them to collapse if not taken care of. Not deadly.

Incantation: Mucus ad Nauseam

Pronunciation: Mew-Kus AD Naw-See-Em

Wand Movement: Caster should point wand in front of themselves while saying the incantation. They should then bring their wand down (towards their left side) and out, curve it up and to the right going outwards slightly, and then bringing it to where you originally started. The motion should resemble drawing a rain drop.

Knockback Jinx: This jinx repels or pushes back whatever the target may be. If the target is of fragile nature, it may be blasted apart. To use with caution.

Incantation: Flipendo

Pronunciation: Fli-PEN-Doh

Wand Movement: The caster must slash their wand down and to the right. Immediately bring it up diagonally to the right and end with a wave. If one is successful, they will see a blue light shoot out at the target.

Variations: A variation of the Knockback Jinx is the Knockback Jinx Duo. This can be used to spend the target sprawling back great distances in a shower of blue sparks.  Incantation: Flipendo Duo Wand movement: Simple slash
