Chapter 15

Lesson Seven

Concentration

When concentration is required, it often means that the spell is fairly complex.

Focus is similar to concentration, but it is in the moment. At the precise moment you are casting your spell, you need to be focused upon the target.

Concentration can be broken down into two categories:

  1. Concentration involves keeping your mind on the effects of the spell once cast.
  2. Concentration also involves keeping your mind and intent on the target once the spell is cast.
Concentration is like maintaing focus overtime, typically after the spell is cast. An example is the Severing Charm, or the Sunlight Charm. Depending upon what the spell is, you may also have to concentrate on a particular thought, feeling or desire while casting the spell. The best example is the Patronus Charm. To cast this spell, you need to concentrate upon a very happy, very powerful memory. This memory, along with all of the other spell requirements, shapes that happy memory into an unbeatable defense against Dementors.

Spell Modifiers:
