Rapunzel
Chapter 6
Rapunzel could tell that Harmony knew what was coming. Still, Rapunzel knew that something must be done. Rapunzel led the girl into the art room.
Harmony looked around the room in awe. Rapunzel saw her classroom every day, and sometimes she didn’t appreciate how amazing it really was. The generic huge white dome and the tulle drapes that adorned every other classroom were somehow overshadowed by the paint splattered floor and the shelves upon shelves of paint bottles and tins.
“So, Harmony…” Rapunzel started, not knowing how to word the statement. She pointed to a chair. “Have a seat.” Harmony sat. She looked around the room rather at Rapunzel.
“Please look at me when I’m talking to you.” Rapunzel knew that she was being hypocritical, but she didn’t know what else to say. With difficulty, Rapunzel met Harmony’s gaze.
“As you know…” Rapunzel started. She tried again. “In light of new events…” Rapunzel simply couldn’t do it. Rapunzel slowly walked over to her white teachers podium and snached the lavender booklet from its drawer. Rapunzel had poured over the booklet again and again since the board of governors released it.
“Read aloud from page 17,” Rapunzel said as she handed Harmony the booklet.
“But why?” Harmony blurts out. She slaps her hand over her mouth and said, her voice slightly muffled. “I-I’m sorry.”
“It's alright,” Rapunzel said, her face cracking a smile. She had difficulty not laughing at the clear shock on Harmony’s face. “Page 17, then?”
Harmony fumbled with the pages a little and started to read aloud;
“The Board of Magical Governors, policy 112.2. This policy ensures that princesses in all years of schooling including Princess Academy will not be strictly required to sing. Instead they will have the choice of many performance arts, including theater, visual art, and multiple instruments to fulfill the art element in their happily ever afters...”
Harmony dropped the booklet. It landed on the floor with a thump as Harmony’s mouth parted in shock.
“Princess Coulter, your singing teacher, and mother had informed me that you are not as musically inclined as Mel-” Rapunzel caught her mistake. “not very musically inclined. These new laws allow you to take my art class instead of singing lessons. Would you like to enroll?”
“Really?” Harmony said, breathless.
“I’ll take that as a yes. Now run along to advisory.” Rapunzel smiled to herself. Now all she had to do was explain herself to Queen Ariel.
