Harmony
Chapter 5
“What did I miss?” Harmony asked as she runs to catch up with her friend Elisa.
“So much!” Elisa said excitedly, turning to Harmony. “Theboardofgovernorsanounced thatwe’reallowedtoshoutandstuffthey’rechangingthewholecurriculumand-”
“Slow down Elisa! You’re frosting on me again!” Elisa stopped to catch her breath as Harmony brushed a thin sheet of frost from her arm. Harmony was used to Elisa making it snow whenever she was excited or stressed. “What were you saying about the board of governors?
“They let up all the rules about shouting and running and stuff! Something about girls growing up independent and stuff. They’re changing the whole curriculum and we’re freeeeeeee!” Elisa spun around, snow trailing behind her. “and stuff.” She added, breathless.
“Wait what?” Harmony said, breathless. She couldn't believe it. She and Elisa had spent four years in Princess Academy, longing for this to happen. Did this mean that princesses no longer had to be the silent, perfect, unmoving dolls that they had been for generations?
Harmony let out a high pitched noise of glee. Of course, it wasn’t melodic and beautiful like Harmony’s older sister Melody’s noise of glee would have been. This noise of glee was as ugly as a pig squeal. Ironically (or so she thought), Harmony was horrendous at singing.
Everyone froze. Everyone around Harmony stared at her. To Harmony’s horror, Princess Rapunzel, a teacher who taught older princesses, stood in the doorway of a classroom nearby. Elisa’s body grew colder and colder beside Harmony.
“Here we go again,” Elisa whispered in Harmony’s ear. “Remember what happened last time you tried to sing?” Harmony didn’t need Elisa’s reminder. Despite the obvious rule of not singing in the hallway, Harmony had been sent to the office for her awful voice too many times.
“Princess Harmony. Would you please come with me?” Princess Rapunzel said. A familiar cold, heavy brick fell into Harmony’s stomach. And onto her head. Literally. Harmony barely had time to brush the two inch layer of snow off of her head and answer Elisa’s apologetic muttering before Princess Rapunzel led her away.
