The Icons

Chapter 3

An icon of Saints Cyril and Methodius can be found in the library. In the 800’s they were in dispute with the clerics of the Latin church and travelled to the Bishop of Rome to get support in this dispute. Their argumentative personalities is reflected in their icon. They cannot stop arguing with visitors to the library, but they are in complete union with each other actually egging each other on if one founds the other too “lenient”. They discuss church doctrine and always bashes on the clerics that they once were in dispute with. The other portraits are not very fond of them as they have heard the same argumentations for hundreds of years. This attitude made the saints create “The Icons union” where all the icons gathers for a weekly meeting. On this occasion all other portraits vacate the room so they don’t have to listen.

Another classic is Mary with the baby Jesus who is clinging on to his mother for dear life. As usual for older icons, baby Jesus looks nothing like baby and looks like a tiny man. In this icon, Mary treats him as a toddler while Jesus is trying to convince her that he is in fact a grown man. She never let her son visit any other portraits, in case he gets hurt or lost.
