Lesson 2: Where Are We?

Chapter 1

  • A potion is a magical mixture composed of magical, mundane, and transitional ingrediants

  • Compound: a single substance formed by two or more atoms

  • Mixture: Combines two or more compounds together 

  • Heterogenous: see the different parts of the mixture i.e. trail mix

  • Homogeneous: cannot visibly see the parts but they can still be pulled apart

  • A potion is a mix of compounds

  • Solution: a mixture with a smaller amount of substance, solute, spread throughout a greater quantity of another substance, solvent

  • A solid is created from atoms and molecules which are moving slowly and packed together

  • A liquid has more dynamic activity and are packed looser

  • A gas has active movement and are the least closely packed

  • Another fourth substance is called plasma

  • Phase transition is when a substance goes into a new phase i.e. liquid to gas

  • Phase transition typically occur from thermal energy

  • Brewing process requires energy of heat and the magic of your wand
