A Second House To Burn
Chapter 6
Long after her belly was full of warm food, she and the other first years were being called by a Prefect. "Come, follow me to your new house," he said.
Melody gladly obliged: she could fall asleep on her feet she was so tired.
Portraits on the wall greeted people as they walked by. One man with a pointed beard tipped his hat to Melody. She blushed. Then her scales turned even redder when a fairly dressed woman came from the portrait next to him and began to yell.
"Miss Clatin and Mr. Deese. She's supposedly engaged to him," a Prefect said. "But he keeps flirting with other students." He chucked as if it were all a silly joke. Which it was.
"Run!"said a girl in yellow. The world underneath Melody's feet began to shift.
The stairs were moving.
She ran as fast as she could, but wasn't fast enough. She jumped, and even then she was barely grasping the platform with her fingertips. She screamed as she fell, heading down towards an endless abyss.
Firm hands gripped her own as Potter caught her. It was a miracle as he single handedly pulled her up into the unmoving floor, where she layed down for a quick break. Her heart was going faster than normal. She was rarely scared; that was one of the few exceptions.
Two girls nearby were whispering. "James Sirius should've let her go," a red haired girl said.
"Why?" chuckled a plump blond girl.
"Her wings would've saved her." They were nearly rolling on the floor with laughter.
Melody felt fire burning in her throat. She swallowed it, covering her hand with her mouth just in case. As they moved on, she sighed. Would Hogwarts just be another house to burn down?
