Ravenclaw, Not Griffindor
Chapter 5
People murmured when Potter was called up to be sorted into his house. By then, Memory had taken it all in: the ceiling, the Sorting Hat, the stares...
"Yes," the Sorting Hat said. "Lots of heart in this young boy. Only one house for him... RAVENCLAW!"
The entire Great Hall fell silent. Harry Potter has been in Griffindor, not Ravenclaw. James Sirius Potter couldn't be in Ravenclaw. It didn't make sense.
The Hat was taken off of James' head and the next student was called.
"Melody Crossi!" the professor called. The young girl looked up. Slowly, she walked up to the stool and went to be sorted.
She wondered what house she would be in. Hufflepuff was a small group, filled with smallish kids. The children in Slytherin seemed to growl and sneer at her. Griffindor had pride floating around the table, casting a shadow above the near houses. And in Ravenclaw, Potter was waiting. She sat down and hoped the hat would fulfill her wishes.
No sooner than it touched her head did the Sorting Hat call out, "RAVENCLAW!" Melody nearly squealed with excitement. The table was full of shifty and uneasy kids. But Potter was showing a goofy grin with his thumbs up that made Melody smile. She began to step out towards the table when a pudgy kid in Griffindor stood up. "Wait!" he came to the professor before she called the next name. The room went silent with eyes on him.
He almost shrank down. "James Sirius Potter should be with Griffindor," he squeaked. There were murmurs of agreement before he continued. "And that girl Melody should be in Slytherin."
That got the crowd angry. There were people talking in loud voices, because they didn't want Melody in their house. Her scales turned bright red. Professor McGonagall held up her hand, causing sharing and silence.
"Why do you think that, Mr. Davis?" she said in her gravely voice.
He blushed. "She's a lizard. She's their mascot."
The room erupted in laughter. Melody held her breath as a couple professors chuckled. McGonagall had to raise her voice very loud. "Settle down," she said in a voice restraining laughter.
Melody ran to her seat in Ravenclaw. It was at the end of the table, by Potter. "Are you okay?" he asked.
"No," she responded, nearly breathing fire. Then she served herself.
If one were to look in the window that night, they might've seen a little girl with red cheekbones, tears sliding down her face, making streaks of blue.
