Acid Shall Rain
Chapter 2
Her first mistake was to keep walking. Melody immediately ran into a boy who was rushing along, caring every bit of his new things. Fresh books and cauldrons poured onto the paved walkway. Hoping to escape cursing, Melody took a step forward, only to hear a loud CRUNCH. Splinters were under her feet, spraying sparks.
"Bloody—" the boy started to say, but Melody has already started to run. She didn't want to breath fire, and her throat had started to burn. Great, she thought. Not here five minutes and people are staring.
The first place to go was Olivander's. She needed her own wand, something to cast defense spells. But never like her mother. Her mother used the an Unforgivable Curse on the bartender one night for restricting her whiskey. Shaking the thought out of her head, Melody walked up the steps.
A kind old man was sitting inside. He must be Olivander, she guessed. She tuned out his speech about wands and glanced around. So many wands...
One thing caught her eyes. A broken wand was sitting on display for all to touch. The inscription read, "The Elder Wand". Melody's hands tingled. The name had power in her head.

Olivander stopped talking one he saw her interest. "Yes, little one. Go ahead. Touch it. Hold it. It has no more power. I'll go find your wand." He smiled and hobbled away.
Melody put her hand gently on the piece of wood. It tingled; almost like a spell her mother used to punish her with, but pleasant. She picked both ends up, and felt her hands burning, yet she didn't drop the pieces. She brought them closer together, and a bright light and a loud snap made her look away.
Olivander came out holding a wand. "Doesn't it feel nice?" he said, right before gasping. There was a clunk as the same he was holding hit the floor.

He walked—no, ran over to Melody and grabbed the Elder Wand. He murmured something inaudible, but Melody heard something about hiding her neck at night. Instinctively, her hands granted the brooch encircling her neck, and Olivander laughed. Handing the wand back to her, he said, "Do a spell."
"Lumos," said Melody, and the room lit up from her light. Olivander clapped and said, "Behold the new Harry Potter.

The grin on her face was a mile wide. Melody possessed the Elder Wand! The half dragon nearly spit fire with delight. She could show the wizard bullies her wand and be worshipped. Her mother wouldn't beat her for being useless. She could be normalish. But it didn't matter, for she wasn't at Hogwarts yet. And now, she was in trouble.
The boy she had ran into earlier was closing in with a gang of tough looking boys. Melody gulped. It wasn't time for her to show off the new wand. She had to suffer to enjoy.
The lead boy took over. He curled up his fist and swung at Melody's cheekbone. She yelped with pain. After she turned around, the boys all made fake puking noises while pointing at her. Melody didn't bother to ask. She could tell that her work was wearing off.
"What are you?" the blond haired boy scowled. "A lizard?"
"Half dragon," she corrected automatically. Then she winced.
The boys laughed. "Your mother's a scoundrel," blond boy said.
Melody hissed. "Well don't get yourself cursed!" The tortured girl turned on her heel and began to walk away.
She heard laughing behind her. "Curse you, Melody. Acid shall rain upon your head, for all of eternity. Let this be a lesson to you. You didn't even apologize."
Melody stopped and bit her lip. How do they know my name?
