The young girl looked at herself in the mirror. She knew she was a mistake. Her mother never admitted it. But she had seen the papers. Pictures of Melody without blue scales ringing her eyes, or ways to stop fire breath, or spells to make one whole. The young girl of eleven had no idea what it did, but she knew it was bad. The picture demonstration was enough to scare her. 

She brushed the makeup over her scales. If she was lucky, makeup would hide her hideousness from the crowd at Diagon Ally. Melody still couldn't believe that she was accepted into Hogwarts, a hybrid like her. But Melody wasn't just a hybrid. She was a mistake. Her formerly young mother was the victim of a wrong said jinx, and nine months later, she was born. Her mother had told her one night when she was drunk with champagne. 

Melody sighed and put down the brush, which was failing. She removed a few papers and found her mother's wand, left behind while she was flirting in the muggle world. Muttering, Melody cast a spell on herself, waving the wand counterclockwise. Her face looked as it would if she wasn't half dragon. Praying nothing wrong would happen, she picked up the floo powder and walked into the fireplace.
