The Orphanage

Chapter 2

I was sitting in the orphanage on my bed watching the clock tic when I heard a knock at my door. "Come in." I said. Tom came in with his eyes covered. I sighed and rolled my eyes and said "You can uncover your eyes now." He uncovered his eyes and grinned at me. "Hey. I brought you breakfast."

"Thanks." I said. He brought in a tray and sat it on my bed side table.

"How you doin'? " he asked

"Fine." I answered.

"Cindy wants us down stairs. She says we're both having an interview with someone who wants to adopt us."

I got up and went to my closet. I pulled out a white tank-top and put a yellow shirt with pink stripes and a black on over it. Then I put on bright blue tights and brown boots. The whole time Tom looked the other way apparently focused on something on the wall.

"Wow!" he said when he turned around. He tossed me my brush and I stepped in front of the mirror in my room. As I brushed my long black hair, Tom walked around my room.

"Your hair is too long." he finally decided. My hair was at my feet and almost touched the ground.

"Whatever." I said back.

My eyes where really green and I had long black eye lashes. When I was done, Tom and I walked out of my room, down a long hallway, through a door, down a flight of steps, turned left down another corridor lined with photos of previous kids who have been here, turned right, down a spiral staircase, ran across another corridor, and into a huge blue room with pink polka dots. We walked through the room and into another room that was orange. There was couple standing there that looked up at us a we entered the room. The man was wearing a t-shirt, ragged jeans and torn up cowboy boots. The girl was wearing a gray faded dress with small gray slippers and her hair looked like she never used conditioner. I didn't want to be adopted by these people and I could tell that Tom didn't either so I decided to do something about it. As soon as I walked up to her I said, "Would you like a drink?" Before they could answer I brought some water to the girl and 'accidently' spilled it on her. She gasped and spread her fingers apart and sat up taller. "Oh no! I'm so sorry!" I cried. "I'll get you some paper towels." said Tom. When he came back his arms were laden down with paper towels. I couldn't even see his face. "Is this enough!" he called through the mountain of paper. He threw all of it on the girl and the man. "Sorry!" said Tom. "Too much?" he asked grinning at me. "I have surprise for you." I said. "I'll be right back!" I ran back to my room and grabbed some paint. When I came back I handed some paint to Tom and I started painting them. When we were done they ran screaming out of the orphanage but somehow they fell before they got to the door and hit their heads. We didn't want to kill them but they just got up and kept running. When Cindy came back she was on fire!

"What did you do?!?!" she screamed, her shoulder length, curly, blonde hair flying. Her eletric blue eyes lighting up like lightning. She reached for her pocket but stopped suddenly as if she remembered something. She was wearing one of those tight knee-length blue skirts, a white button-up,longsleeve shirt, and a blue waist-length jacket. She could have worked at a candy store.

"We were trying to be nice to them." I said.

"Nice to them!?" she screamed. "You could have driven them crazy!!"

"Maybe." I said shrugging.

She looked at me with an exasted expresion, panting.

Tom and I ran back up to my room. As soon as I closed the door we started laughing. We laughed so hard that our stomachs started hurting. after about 30 minutes I was on  my bed holding my side and Tom was on the floor clutching his side too.

"What would happen if we weren't friends?"I asked.

"We would probably be dead." he answered.

Then we both started laughing again.
