During the tenth century, four of the greatest witches and wizards that ever lived founded Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry: Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff and Salazar Slytherin. As The Sorting Hat told each of you, they did this because they had the ‘selfsame yearning, to make the world’s best magic school’. And they did! Each of them created their own house to represent a trait and skill that they wanted students to embrace. Gryffindor students show bravery and chivalry. Ravenclaws are intelligent and have wit. Hufflepuffs are loyal and fair. And, of course, Slytherins are known to be sly and cunning.
