Dark Arts- Anything that has the intent to harm, injure, or even kill another person

• Once the dark arts have a hold of you, they never let you go, as dark arts corrupt your soul, it will also corrupt your body


• 1995 -1998 Voldemort worked to attain power after regaining human form (lost his form in 1998 when attacking Potter family)


• 1997 Voldemort succeded and in position to change the world


• Deatheaters laws only lasted 1997-1998


• 1997-1998 DADA course disbanded into the dark arts


• Dark arts can never be defeated, or completely known, can only hold them back

• Dark creatures


• Dark artifacts


• Dark practices

Dark spell- Any spell cast with the intent to harm others

The dark arts: The three spell categories:

Jinx- The first and lowest level of Dark spell. Usually will not cause much harm, and considered a minor irritation. Does not cause lasting damage. Ex: Tripping jinx, Stinging jinx, Knock-Back jinx. 

Hex- Second level. Does more lastin damage. Major inconvenience, moderate amount of suffering. Reverse through the use of hex breaker.  Ex: Bat-Bogey Hex, Hurling Hex, Densaugeo

Curse- Third and final. Cast with intent to severly harm or potentially kill the target. Ex: Reductor Curse, Full body-bind Curse, Conjunctivitis Curse

Unforgivable Curses- Darkest spells known to wizard kind. Use of any will land you in Azkaban.

The wand-lighting and wand-extinguished charms

• Lights up the tip of the wand like a flashlight


• Light yellow color when properly cast, requires very little concentration or willpower.


• Helps with dark creatures with light aversion


• Needs to eventually be extinguished

Incantation: Lumos (LOO-mos)

Wand movement: Move wand up into a counter-clockwise loop

Incantion: Nox (NOCK-ss)

Wand movement: A flick of the wand os lsight jab in any direction

Concentration: None

Willpower: None
