Lesson Five: I Don't Forget Study Guide
Chapter 6
Up until 2013, scientists have only theorized the reasons why magical & non-magical people need sleep. In the United States, the University of Rochester studied this with mice. They observed the levels of toxic cells such as Alzheimer's when they are asleep. They discovered that while sleeping, their minds were able to drive out the toxic cells. The neuron cells are able to shrink about sixty percent when you sleep. By shrinking in size, the glial cells have more room for pathways. Neurons allow your body to remember situations, learn, & grow through experiences. GABA allows your body relaxation so that you can sleep. Some potions are not addictive unlike Muggle pills. When taking Muggle pills, your body will eventually build immunity & you will end up taking more than the recommended dosage to feel the effects. With potions, you can take the same dosage for a long time. The magic in the potion allows the neurotransmitters to revert back to normal once the effects vanish.
Fun Facts
⊱ While you are awake, your cells are only five percent as operative.
⊱ Sedatives like the Sleeping Draught aids in anxiety, stress, & mental strain.
⊱ Some mundane pills such as melatonin causes mild nausea, grogginess, & a decreased blood flow.
⊱ In Muggle sedatives, after the brain is forced to be more alert for some time, it crashes & causes you to feel the need for sleep. In most magical potions, this fogginess does not happen.
