Chapter 1: A Letter From the Headmistress
Chapter 3
I rubbed my eyes as I woke up. I remembered my strange dreams; a man approaching me - but the feeling was eerily comforting. Hermione Jean Granger (that’s my name!) has survived the wizarding world, and I say this proudly. I am Harry Potter’s best friend, who has recently married one of my best friends - Ginny Weasley. I’m now close to all the redheads (the Weasleys) who have been so kind to me.
The wedding was a joyous occasion. I loved the way that Ginny’s hair flowed back as she walked up to Harry and exclaimed in relish that she was marrying her. That’s how I think about my wedding day. Or at least, I hope it will be. I know for a fact that Ronald Weasley - he has an eye out for me. But sometimes, I am just annoyed. He can kiss my hands and bring me chocolates - if he wants - but I will NOT marry him. And I mean it.
Oh dear, I’m getting a bit into a rant. Anyway, as these heavy thoughts passed in my head, I got dressed into a loose dress but a thought suddenly hit me. I spotted a letter that was lying on my small desk (which is crammed with books, by the way). I reached over to re-read it. Professor Mcgongall, who has thankfully survived the war, and is now headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has got a few ideas in her head.
Dear Miss Granger, (It said)
I do hope that you will have time to read this letter - I hear from Harry that he has been getting fan mail every day (I believe a stack can be found on his desk!!) so I assume you do as well.
I am writing to you to give you the opportunity to continue your education. There are many students who had to leave Hogwarts because of the war but I can assure you that we are back to normal. We sadly miss Professor Snape, but Professor Slughorn is here to take his place - and Professor Lupin is proud to be Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher. So this is what I propose. I am inviting all the students who had to miss their last year of learning - which of course, you can choose to, if you want - but I thought that perhaps you and your friends might want to stay together for another happy year as “children”.
I would be glad if you could think about it and coming here, which naturally brings me to the final note. This year, the seventh year students will be a select part of the school, getting more educational opportunities which I can explain more precisely at Hogwarts - if you choose to get here. And, we are obliged to choose a Head Boy and Head Girl.
I have written to Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley personally, offering them the position of Head Boy but both rejected and said that they want a calmer year with less duties. I understand. But if you do want to, I am offering you the position of a Head Girl.
Please owl me for further information, if you need it and would be pleased to have the brightest witch of your age to come and join Hogwarts for your final year.
King Regards,
Professor M. Mcgonagall
Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
I looked at the letter fondly. I had indeed responded with an excited “Yes!” for the position of Head Girl and asked when the start of the term was. I was terribly pleased to be given this opportunity, and I am thrilled to start. I only hope that Ron and Harry are.
Then it struck me. Harry would want to stay with Ginny, right? So…no, this couldn’t be. He accepted? No! I don’t want to be with Ron alone but I assume that I will have to just stay at the Borrow or something… I frowned and that very thought. I was bursting with excitement to go back to Hogwarts.
“Hermione? You okay? Breakfast!” Yelled Ginny from the bottom of the stairs, as though ready to pull me down. I nodded to myself and walked downstairs after brushing my curls and wishing that several bangs would disappear. Ginny saw me.
“Hey. Who are you dressing up for?” Ginny asked, teasing me.
“No one.” I returned, a mock scowl on my face. Ginny laughed.
“Ok, ok. They look cute, ‘Mione.” She said comfortingly, patting my shoulder. But this just annoyed me.
“So does Ronald.” I said cuttingly. Ginny, refusing to take offense after her sunny wedding day, smiled at me brightly.
I saw Harry when I came downstairs.
“Hey Harry!” I said casually as I tuck into the delicious bacon that Molly cooked.
“Hia Hermione! Did you get the news about going to Hogwarts?” He asked, looking up from his (very bad job) of smearing marmalade of two toasts at once. Laughing, Ginny did one for him. I replied, but my voice wobbled.
“Yeah…so, are you going?” I tried to make it sound as if I already knew.
“Yep. I’m going! So’s Ron.” Harry grinned, brushing his hair out of his face.
“Wait, what?” I choked on my bacon “What about Ginny?” I muttered, messaging my throat.
This time, it was Ginny who responded,
“Em, excuse me, Granger?” She put on her poshest voice and was laughing behind her eyes that looked so haughty “I’m married to the Boy-who-lived. I’m practically royalty!” I rocked with laughter, Ginny could make the most grumpiest person alive laugh. Harry nodded but the kitchen went silent as Ron came in. My heart froze but my eyes leaped.
It was a pretty usual morning.Harry, Ginny and Ron and I decided to go shopping in Diagon Alley for some new supplies.
