Darcia heart was beating, she would toss around as she is thrown to the floor by her father. Her mother's dead body laid just a few feet in a pool of blood. Darcia bruised body laid on the ground weakly. Her father gone completely mad, Darcia doesn't want to die, not now at least. She looked desperately around her for something to use to protect her, that's when she locked eyes on it. The dagger. Darcia crawled towards the dagger used by her father to kill her mother, and raised the knife high to her father and stabbed him through the chest.
Darcia jolts awake from her bedroom. Her alarm blaring the sounds of beeps. It was all a dream. Darcia sighed as she looked around her room. Her roommate, Claudia, was folding her bed sheets.
"Oh, hey Darcia. Mrs. Pillsbury wants us to be ready in thirty minutes. We need to get ready for the reapings today." Claudia sighed as she finished folding her bed sheets neatly.
"Shit I forgot all about that." Darcia thought as she quickly got out from her bed and put her pink slippers on. This was Darcia's first year being eligible for the hunger games. The stress enough has already had an affect on her mental illnesses. She wasn't known to be the best when it comes to stressful situations. Most of the time she'll have a panic attack. But she has been trying not to get to that point, and she's doing a good job at it too.
Darcia quickly brushed her teeth, and got into a nice dress. As soon as she was getting her shoes on Mrs. Pillsbury came into the room. Mrs. Pillsbury was a sweet woman who loved all thw orphans as if they were her own children. However Mrs. Pillsbury does expect us to follow the rules.
"I see you both are ready. Good job you two. Now, go and wait at the front door so I can do a head count before we leave." Mrs. Pillsbury tells Darcia and Claudia.
"Yes Mrs. Pillsbury." Both girls would respond as they finished putting their shoes on and walks down to the front door.
The girls walked down the stairs to the front room where a group of orphans waited. All different ages, they orphans were all incredibly nervous. Darcia seemed to be the most nervous of all.
"It's about time you two came down." Lizzie said as crossed her arms, giving the girls a glare.
"Sorry Lizzie we were getting ourselves ready." Claudia spoke out for Darcia.
"Whatever." Lizzie rolled her eyes and turned back to talking to her friends.
"Thank you." Darcia whispered to Claudia as she stepped into the line of orphans.
"No problem Darcia. It's what friends are suppose to do." Claudia smiled and hugged Darcia.
Darcia hugs Claudia as Mrs. Pillsbury came down the stairs. She did a quick head count to make sure everyone was there. After everyone was counted she turned towards Miss. Claire and handed her a list of instructions to care for those ineligible for the Reaping.
Darcia walked down the dirt streets of District Ten. The smell of the fresh cow fertilizer became the smell that the citizens became use to. Darcia was trying to keep calm as they approached the justice center. She was terrified, and Claudia knew that.
"Hey, it's going to be ok." Claudia whispered to Darcia, noticing her terrified face.
Darcia took some deep breaths to calme down. After a few deep breaths she was able to feel comfortable. Darcia waited in line to get her finger pricked. She wasn't afraid of needles unlike most of the girls her age. Darcia took the needle like a warrior, and began walking towards her line. Darcia stopped to give one last hug to Claudia, whom was older by two years. The two girls serpeated, and Darcia finally made it to her line.
The District Ten escort, Naya Aisling, walked onto the stage in her usual Capitol apparel, a white and pink dress, a white powder face and light pink glittery lipstick. She was always excited, even when things weren't suppose to be. Some District Ten citizens found that annoying, but Darcia didn't. She found Naya interesting, and she hoped she was as happy and excited as she was. Darcia sighed as Naya approached the microphone. Her heart beating fast, it felt like it was beating a mile a minute. Darcia remembered what Claudia said, and she calmed herself down.
"Hello, Hello, Hello District Ten! I'm Naya Aisling, and I'll be your mentor this year. Now, let's give a random of applause for District Ten's best of the best! Please welcome to the stage, District Ten's victors.
The only victor Darcia knew was Una, she was very brave her games.
"Now! The time has come to select one brave cowgirl, and cowboy to represent District Ten in the Thirty Sixth Annual Hunger Games! Isn't that exciting!" Naya clapped, but in return received silence from the crowd. She watched in awkwardness as she awaited for something to happen, but nothing happened.
"Well- let's start with the boys for a change!" She awkwardly said as she stepped towards the cow skull bowl and pulled a name out. After doing so, she walked back towards the microphone and opened to slip of paper.
"Arnold Cowbell!" Naya screeched into the microphone.
Darcia looked at the boy of eighteen years, a strong young man who seemed brave. He walked up to the stage with a full face, and stood on the stage in silence.
"Now for the female!" Naya said with a smile as she walked towards the other cow skull bowl and pulled a name out and walked towards rhe microphone.
"Darcia Amaris!" Naya screeched.
Darcia's heart dropped. Did she just hear her name? Darcia started to cry, but that's when she saw Claudia who mouthed her to stay strong. So Darcia got her act together and walked back onto the stage.
"There we go everyone! The tributes of District Ten, Arnold Cowbell and Darcia Amaris!" Naya raised the hands of both tributes before peacekeepers escorted them to into the justice building.
Darcia closed her eyes and took some deep breaths. She was going to come home, no matter what.
