Chapter 2

There are two main styles for writing in the world of roleplay.

The first style is one that I like to call 'Author's script'. Like it's name says, it is the same style used in books. This involves writing out description and action, and adding dialogue with quotation marks.

Example: Lesath walked down diagon alley, the sun shining off the polished signs and stones. "Lesath!" A voice said behind him. Quickly turning around, he say the face of his best friend smiling at him.

While this is not the only way to roleplay, any aspiring writer must become comfortable with using this style. In my opinion, it is the easiest to read, but it is not the only way.

The next is a style I call 'Action script', a name not too difficult to remember. I call it this because, as opposed to the former style which emphasizes dialogue, this one emphasizes actions. It uses either asterisks or dashes, but for my example I will be using asterisks.

Example: *Walks into the library and up to his friends* Hey guys, how are you? *smiles*

This style is used by many roleplayers. While not many people people use this style for heavily descriptive scenes, it can come in handy when writing one-liners or roleplaying in a group chat.

I will not go into detail on how to use these scripts in this book, as it involves a lot of technical punctuation and it would be much more reliable to you to read a book and examine how Author's Script is used, or go to a roleplay forum and see how Action Script is used. As for myself, Author's Script is my primary style of writing. Feel free to use either, and find out what works best for you.
