Immunoelixir

Chapter 14
Immunoelixir

Estimated Brewing Time:
Pewter cauldron: 78 minutes
Brass cauldron: 71 minutes
Copper cauldron: 63 minutes

Ingredients:
Seven hundred and fifty (750) ml of water
Two (2) flying seahorses1
Three (3) dragonfly thoraxes2
One (1) fresh chili pepper1
Thirty (30) ml honey2
Forty-five (45) ml fresh squeezed lemon juice2
Thirty (30) grams crushed cocoa beans3

Instructions:

Part 1
  1. Bring 500ml of water to 363 Kelvin (90°C/194°F).
  2. Add two flying seahorses and three dragonfly thoraxes to your mortar and crush it to an even consistency with your pestle.
  3. Add the contents of your mortar to the cauldron.
  4. Stir four times counter clockwise and once clockwise with your wand.
  5. Chop the chili pepper widthwise on your cutting board. Each piece should be approximately one half cm wide.
  6. Add the chopped chili pepper to your cauldron. (Note: At this point the cauldron will begin to emit a pale blue steam. This is normal, but the brewer should avoid skin exposure to the steam, as it can cause rashes.)
  7. Bring the heat up to 383 Kelvin (110°C/230°F) for two minutes, and then reduce heat again to 363 Kelvin (90°C/194°F).
  8. Stir twice clockwise with your wand.
  9. Leave the potion to brew in your pewter cauldron for 23 minutes (this would be 20 minutes in a brass cauldron and 18 minutes in a copper cauldron).

At this point, the potion will be a pale red and will continue to emit blue steam. The steam may take a slightly greenish hue. The potion is still good, it just means that the chili pepper was a little older and on the verge of expiring.

Part Two

  1. Add 250ml of water to the cauldron.
  2. Add 15ml of honey to the cauldron.
  3. Add 30ml of lemon juice to the cauldron.
  4. Stir twice clockwise with your wand.
  5. Leave the potion to brew in your pewter cauldron for 18 minutes (this would be 16 minutes in a brass cauldron and 15 minutes in a copper cauldron).

At this point, the potion will have turned a pale yellow, and the steam will be more of a green or a greenish-yellow.

Part Three

  1. Add 30 grams of cocoa beans to your mortar and crush them into a fine powder with your pestle.
  2. Add 30 grams of crushed cocoa beans to the cauldron.
  3. Add 15ml of honey to the potion.
  4. Add 15ml of lemon juice to the potion.
  5. Stir once counterclockwise and once clockwise.
  6. Leave the potion to brew in your pewter cauldron for 20 minutes (this would be 18 minutes in a brass cauldron and 16 minutes in a copper cauldron.)
  7. Remove from the heat and allow the potion to sit for ten minutes to cool before siphoning it into a clear crystal phial.

The final potion will be a very pale greenish-yellow and will smell a little like ginger, although it will taste more like dandelions.

To Store:

The Immunoelixir can be stored at room temperature out of direct sunlight for up to ten years.

To Use:

About 30 ml of the Immunoelixir should be taken daily to provide a boost in the immune system. There are no known effects of “overdosing” on the potion, and it can be taken by children, the elderly, and those who are and may become pregnant. It’s a fairly innocuous potion that can be picked up at any apothecary.

Effects:

The Immunoelixir cannot cure existing conditions or diseases. It cannot mend broken bones or increase speed of recovery from injury. Instead it provides a boost to the immune system that makes one less susceptible to falling ill. If one feels a cold coming on, if the Immunoelixir is taken before the cold hits in full effect, it has been shown to be helpful in preventing the onset of the cold.

Those who suffer from anemia and similar conditions will often take the Immunoelixir, although it will not correct entirely for vitamin deficiencies. Instead, it provides a small increase in the capacity of the body to build the immune system.
