Lesson 2: Safety In The Alchemy Field

Chapter 2

Items Needed:
Wand
Dragonhide Gloves
Goggles
Facemask
Closed toed shoes

Wand: Needed for transmuting spells.
Dragonhide Gloves: These gloves will help protect your hands from becoming damaged due to the chemicals we will be coming into contact with.
Goggles: Fumes from the chemicals can severely harm your eyes. Before dealing with chemicals, the Professor will make sure that each of his students are wearing goggles.
Impervious - The incantation to charm uncharmed goggles is “im-PUR-vee-us.”  The wand movement requires the caster to start from the left, go to the right, back up, and back down.
Facemask: Chemicals that are dangerous can cause severe harm even when inhaled. Such effects can be (but are not limited to): - Hallucinations - Difficulty breathing - Dizziness - Coughing up blood

Closed toed shoes: This is rather self explanatory. Students who come into the classroom with anything but an open toed shoe, will be asked to change. If you are familiar with the Potions class, you will understand that chemicals can spill over onto the floor thus creating a highly toxic workplace for the student and anyone to come into contact with it.

What to do in case of an Emergency:
-Get as far away from the chemical as possible.
-Notify the Professor immediately.
-Make sure the chemical is written down or told to the Professor.
-Chemicals are stored in a cupboard and are labelled with their corresponding chemicals.  Color coded.

Reactive Chemical Steps:
1.  Find the affected area.
2.  Wiped the chemical away with a cleaning charm.  Tergeo is recommended, point your wand at the chemical, has a white mist when done correctly.
3.  Apply Dittany if it's within reach before wrapping the wound and going to see a Healer.  If no Dittany is available, wrap the area, and seek a Healer immediately.
Any wrongful charms should be discovered, and reported to the Professor so the charm may be reversed.Any cases beyond help are to be reported to the Headmaster so the proper authorities may be notified.
