I took a Latin class in 6th grade and one thing my teacher said to make us remember our vocabulary is to compare it to real life or Harry Potter spells. 
We have some examples. 
Here is how it will be set up:

"Spell" Latin phrase root=Latin word meaning :spell meaning

Okay are you ready?

"Accio"  Acciō, accīre, accīvī, accītum = to summon, call, send for : summoning spell

"Confundo" cōnfundō, cōnfundere, cōnfūndī, cōnfūsus= stir up, confuse, mix up : to confuse opponent

"Crucio" cruciō, cruciāre, cruciāvī, cruciātus =torture torment : a torturing spell, also called the cruciatus curse (how fitting) 

"Wingardium Leviosa" wing + arduus-a -um =steep + levō, levāre, levāvī, levātum=to lift : levitation charm

"Diffindo" diffindō, diffindere, diffindī, diffisum =to split, divide, render useless : severing charm

"Expecto patronum" exspectō -āre -āvī -ātum =to wait for (like expect) + patrōnus -ī -m = a protector, defender : used to summon a patronus which defends from dementors

"Expelliarmus" expellō, expellere, expulī, expulsum= to drive out + arma, amōrum =weapons : disarming charm (to force out weapon)

"Finite Incantatum" finite=finish + incantō, -āre = to bewitch : counterspell 

"Imperio" imperō, imperāre = to order + imperatum -i = a command : a spell to control the target

"Lumos" lūmen, luminis=light + -os= Greek nominative ending : to make light

"petrificus totalus" Petra = rock + -ficus = suffix meaning becoming/making + totalis-is -e = total : full body binding curse

"sectumsempra" secō, secāre, secuī, sectum = to sever, cut (sectum having been cut) +semper = always\continuously : Severus Snape made this spell which allows the wand to have some kind of invisible sword come out and let the holder cut the target as much as wanted.
