Lesson Eight: Using Runes in Spells & Enchantments Study Guide
Chapter 9
Rune magic is considered a precise type of magic, while verbal spells have a wide range of uses. Using runes in spellcasting needs to be carved or drawn onto a surface & must activate it by using the Activation Charm. Physically carving a rune into an item & chanting its incantation won't work. Runic spells are commonly used on amulets, jewelry, & coins. These pieces can be sewn on clothes for protection or for positive features.
Runes With Verbal Charms
Using this method is commonly used to create charmed items. Professor Brigham explains the effects of using runic spells as a web or an invisible armour to increase the other charms that can be added. Runes effect only the area around the item, where as charms can alter the pieces on the item. For example, using Wunjo (creates joy, happiness, & feelings) when casting either the Patronous Charm or the Cheering Charm.
Runes With Potions
Using this method is commonly used to create potions & to brew them. In standard Kenaz, you would use this rune to increase ill health, disease, & confusion for malicious intent. In merkstave Kenaz, you would use this rune to increase good health & energy. Inscribe your chosen rune onto the cauldron & activate the rune. If you were to brew Herbicide or Doxycide poisons, the merkstave Kenaz would decrease its potency. Another method you can use is to activate merkstave Kenaz or a rune of your choice onto the phials.
