Each chapter is based on a lesson; where it won't go into grave detail, but will give you the necessary components to study for upcoming tests & assignments. Ancient Runes Glossary

Chapter 1

Aett ⊱ A set of eight runes devoted to a Germanic god. In the Elder Futhark, there are three aettir.

Aettir ⊱ The Old Norse word meaning clan or family.

Alphabet ⊱ A system of letters which contain the symbols of sounds & vowels.

Ancient Runes ⊱ A system of written texts used for spellwork & magical communication.

Context ⊱ The environment a text is in. This includs position, origin, & cultural links.

Freya ⊱ the Norse goddess of beauty & fertility.

Futhark ⊱ A runic word for alphabet.

Heimdall ⊱ A Norse god. This god patrols the roads of the universe.

Ideogram ⊱ A symbol that illustrates ideas or theories.

Ingridir Siguroadottir ⊱ A Nordic Magi female. She is the inventor of ligatures.

Ingwaz ⊱ A Norse god. This god is an Earth god.

Latin Alphabet ⊱ A set of symbols used to communicate in a written format.

Law of Unintended Consequences ⊱ Each action has either a positive, negative, or neutral effect.

Level of Translation ⊱ The category chosen when translating runes. This can be phonetic, mundane, or Schreiber's corrections (magical).

Ligature ⊱ A blend of multiple runes that can look like a single rune.

Metonym ⊱ Any word, name, or phrase that is used in place of the word, name, or phrase mentioned. For example, tongue would translate to language.

Merkstave ⊱ A rune that is either mirrored or flipped. Also means dark stick.

Nordic Magi ⊱ An ancient magical council whom were once looked at as gods or priests.

Phonetic Script ⊱ A system of written texts used by hearing sounds or oral communication.

Phonetics ⊱ The sound of speech. This includes consonants & vowels.

Principle of Correspondence ⊱ A saying that goes as above, so below.

Principle of Sympathy ⊱ A saying which goes like attracts like.

Reconstructions ⊱ Words that are restored to its original form.

Rune Stone ⊱ Written memorials for heroes whom have past away.

Runic Scripts ⊱ Symbols or letters with magical properties.

Schreiber's Corrections ⊱ The magical meanings of runes. Sofia Schreiber invented these meanings.

Standard ⊱ The common form of a rune. Also known as Upright.

Transcription ⊱ Translating a writing system to another using phonetic speech. Also known as transliterating.

Translation ⊱ Translating a writing system to an approximate writing system using phonetic speech, figurative speech, & ideographic symbols.

Tyr ⊱ A Norse god. This god is leadership, justice, neutrality, & reason. Also known as Tiwaz.

Upright ⊱ The common form of a rune. Also known as Standard.

Variants ⊱ Symbols of runic scripts that are not standard but means the same.

Writing System ⊱ A written from used to make communication visible.
