It's A Different Kind of Like (A Blackinnon Fanfiction)

Whoo! It's been a mouthful for the Marauders, navigating throughout their journey. They battle life, love, and just a little sprinkle of magic here and there. All credits go to JK Rowling except for my own characters. (Please keep in mind that I do not support her views on the LGBTQIA+ community- I'm part of that community myself!)

Marlene's Story

Chapter 6

As soon as Marlene heard the snores of Lily and Alice, she sat up and sighed. Marlene nuzzled her head into her knees, with her dirty blond hair draped around her head like a curtain.

Oof, thought Padfoot. What's up with her?

"Hey Burpy," whispered Marlene. "You know how to get to sleep quickly? I can never sleep and I always see dogs taking such comfortable naps."

Suddenly, something clicked in Padfoot's head. Marlene had insomnia. That explained why she came to class every morning with dark patches below her eyes and always looking like even the tiniest thing irritated her. Padfoot snuggled closer to her.

Marlene smirked and scratched his ears. "You getting belly rubs isn't a great way for me to sleep better, but it's a very valid suggestion."

She thought for a while. "You dogs have got it good," she finally said.

Padfoot looked up at her questioningly.

"Dogs have everything just given to them," she continued. "We give them food and toys. They don't have to do any work for themselves. It's times like that when I wish I was a dog too."

Padfoot thought about this. She had a point.

Marlene was quiet for another moment. Then she said, "Do you think that Black is kinda rude sometimes, Burpy?"

Padfoot didn't answer.

Marlene sighed. "It's just that- he never tried to apologize for the foreign exchange student incident. If he had, I might have even forgiven him. Did it even matter? He just made my first three years at Hogwarts more problematic. Everytime I passed someone, they would say, 'Hey look, there goes the foreign girl'. I just don't get why he felt the urge to label me like that."

Padfoot didn't know she felt this way. Was he really that rude to her? It had changed her whole fun experience at Hogwarts. If he had been Sirius at the moment, he wouldn' have had the courage to do this. But Padfoot was ready. He nuzzled her foot and leaped off the bed silently.

"Burpy? Where on earth are you going?" Marlene grabbed her glasses and tiptoed after him into the silent, quiet outdoors.

A/N: AHHHHHHHH! Thank you all so much for the reads! I wonder what Padfoot's gonna show Marlene! Once again, thanks so much for the reads! Bye!
