It's A Different Kind of Like (A Blackinnon Fanfiction)

written by Jui Weasley

Whoo! It's been a mouthful for the Marauders, navigating throughout their journey. They battle life, love, and just a little sprinkle of magic here and there. All credits go to JK Rowling except for my own characters. (Please keep in mind that I do not support her views on the LGBTQIA+ community- I'm part of that community myself!)

Prologue of the Idiots

Chapter 1

“Lils, I’m dead...” groaned Marlene.

“Marlene Bl-McKinnon, get up right now!” said Lily Evans loudly, pushing Marlene off the bed.

Marlene’s head popped up. “What did you just call me?”

“I called you Marlene McKinnon- and we’re about to be late for Charms- Alice’s already done with breakfast!”

Marlene groaned. “There’s only one thing that’ll wake me up.”

“Wha- oh no...” moaned Lily. “Oh no, don’t you dare.”

“I suppose if a certain James and a certain Lily kissed, I dunno, I just might get up to watch the action.” Marlene grinned evilly.

“What’s going on here?” said a voice from the doorway.

Marlene and Lily turned around.

“Black,” said Marlene, rolling her eyes.

“McKinnon,” said Sirius, doing the same.

“Hey Sirius,” sighed Lily. “You seen Remus? He seems like the only person that can get Marlene up.”

“I’ll go get him.”

Lily tugged at Marlene’s nightgown. “MCKINNON I SWEAR IF YOU DON’T GET UP RIGHT NOW-”

“Ok, Lils, chill.” Marlene pushed herself off the bed and pulled on her robes.

Lily checked her watch. “Mar, I gotta go get my Transfiguration book from James, he stole it from me- meet me in the Charms classroom.”

Marlene nodded. There was a sock in her mouth as she pulled on her leggings and tied up her hair in a ponytail.

While getting ready for class, she thought about how much she hated Black and that no good James Potter. Peter was all right, but Remus was probably the one with the most sense.

Peter was kinda dumb, to be honest.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: me hating on peter just cuz he’s a stupid little-

Why did she hate Black?

Well...

Back in first year...

“Hi,” said Marlene. “I’m Marlene McKinnon. What’s your name?” She bounced on her heels slightly.

“Sirius Black,” the boy said, holding out a hand.

Marlene smiled and shook it. “Can I sit down? There aren’t any other free compartments on the train.”

Sirius nodded.

Marlene sat down and pushed up her slightly loose blue glasses.

“So...” she said excitedly. “What house do you think you’ll be in?”

“Hopefully not Slytherin.”

Marlene scrunched up her eyebrows. “What’s so wrong with Slytherin?”

“No good witch or wizard has ever come out of there,” the boy said blankly.

“You can change that.” She shrugged.

Sirius looked up. The girl, Marlene, had puffy brown hair and light blue glasses with shining hazel eyes underneath. She wore non matching socks and the socks were backwards.

He pointed at her socks. “What’s up with them?”

“Oh- um- I couldn't find a pair- and the inside of the socks has the other side of the stitching, so it itches... so... yeah...” Marlene scratched her neck awkwardly.

“Marlene McKinnon?” asked Sirius, recognizing the surname.

“Yeah... what about it?”

“Oh! So you’re the foreign exchange student everyone’s been gossiping about!” said Sirius, snapping his fingers.

Marlene’s face darkened. “Foreign exchange student?”

“Yeah, you come from- what- Brazil?”

Marlene gritted her teeth in anger and her fingers clenched.

She got up and walked out of the compartment.

“I’m from CALIFORNIA!” Marlene slammed the compartment door behind her.

Back in fifth year...

Why did that even matter?! She could be from the ARCTIC for goodness sakes and it wouldn’t make a difference.

She hastily wiped her glasses on her robes and ran out of the dormitory and into the common room where Alice Fortescue was standing, tapping her shoe against the mat.
"Mar, come on, let's go!" she said, gesturing for Marlene to follow her out of the common room.
As they speedwalked to their Charms class, Alice pulled out several pieces of buttered toast wrapped in a napkin.
"Eat," she advised gently, handing the napkin to Marlene. "There are 3 hours till lunch and you'll be hungry."

"Thanks Alice, you're a lifesaver." Marlene smiled and gobbled up a slice of toast and pocketed the rest for later.
When they reached the Charms classroom, they seemed to be the last to get there. And very late.
But no one noticed.
And all because Sirius Black and James Potter had turned Severus Snape purple.
And for really surprising reasons too.
