TW: Mentions of killing
(Mattheo’s pov)
We just sat like that for a while. Just the two of us. Thomas had left shortly after Indu.
I had never felt like this before. I felt so calm, yet I also felt like I was burning on the inside. My thoughts were scattered. I felt so exposed.
Theodore pulled away and looked into my eyes. He had stopped crying and was trying to pull himself together to the best of his ability “We still have to the New Years ball tonight”
“You don’t have to go if your not feeling good”
“No, we all need to be there, we need to get Y/n”
“Theo, we wouldn't blame you if you don’t want to go. Malachi is probably going to be there, it could be dangerous”
“No, I want to go- I’m going” He stated firmly
“Well then” I stood up and offered my hand to Theodore “We need to start going over plans” He took my hand and I pulled him to his feet.
He looked away nervously and his lips formed a straight line before he turned back to me “Just promise me you’ll be close, just in case I need…” He went silent for a second “help” he finished
I nodded my head once and put my hand on his shoulder “Of course”
We apparated to my dorm where Thomas was already waiting and started going over plans.
(Y/n’s pov)
My father had come to visit me this morning. He informed me about the ball and gave me a task for tonight. Then he left and I went back to my room.
Ever since I had talked to Indu my mind had been all over the place. I was trying to figure out what she was talking about. What did she mean I was close to my brothers? I didn’t think I really knew my brothers, let alone ever talk to them. Every time I tried to think about them my mind went blank. Was Indu just joking around? Or trying to mess with my mind? But Indu would never do that… right? Why could I remember Indu and not anyone else? It gave me a headache just thinking about it.
I had nothing else to do so I practiced some wandless magic. I had gotten really good at not needing my wand to cast spells, but there was still room for improvement. I suddenly heard something behind me.
I turned around to find a tall boy looking at me “Impressive” He commented. Even though I was sure I had never seen this boy before, there was something familiar about him. His hair was short, and fell in slight waves. It was a similar color to mine, just a little bit darker, and his eyes were dark brown, almost black. He reminded me a bit of my father when he was younger but there were very few pictures so I couldn’t be sure.
“I’m sorry” I tilted my head “I don’t think I’ve seen you before”
I noticed his mouth dip slightly as he looked away and back. He met my eyes again “Thomas” He nodded his head once.
I looked down and away for a second. One of my brothers' names is Thomas? Was this my brother? I could see the similarities but there could be tons of Thomass in the world, I couldn’t go around thinking that every person named Thomas is my brother. But what if this was my brother? “Is Riddle your last name by any chance?” I asked as I looked back up at him
He sighed “Yes, it is”
“So you're my brother?”
“Yes” His voice dropped to a whisper
“What are you doing here?”
“I’ve just come to check on you but I have to go now” He paused “See you later, I’ll be at the ball”
I nodded my head once and he disappeared
(Theodore’s pov)
Mattheo and I were sitting around waiting for Thomas to get back when he appeared in the room. Mattheo looked up expectantly “Did you see Y/n?” He asked
“Yes” Thomas nodded his head
“Why didn’t you get her?”
“Because Mattheo, it isn’t that simple. Besides, if I took her Malachi or father would kill me”
“How is it any different than taking her tonight?”
“Because we will all be there. If he dies, we all will probably die together” Indu answered through the now open doorway.
“You are not coming with us” Thomas declared “So please leave the room and close the door”
“Oh no, I’m coming with you” She stepped into the room and closed the door behind her “The whole reason I’m back is for Y/n. I will be attending the ball tonight. And have I told you yet, I’m the only one she remembers”
“She remembers you?” Thomas asked
“Yep, I’m guessing because Malachi never knew me, or knew I know Y/n, he didn’t even think about making her forget about me”
“That makes sense” I chimed in
“Still, you need a invitation to get in” Thomas continued
She smiled, it was almost a smirk as she held up a black envelope that looked exactly like the one we got. “Like this?” She asked tilting her head to one side
“How did you get that?” Thomas asked
“I have my ways”
“Thomas” Mattheo looked at his brother “She could help us greatly and she’s already proven she's powerful. Stop coming up with excuses”
“Mattheo” Thomas looked at Mattheo “There's a chance that we are going to die or come very close to death tonight, I don’t want Indu to get wrapped up into this if she doesn't have to. If father sees us there with her, there’s a good chance he will try to do something to Indu”
“He can try” Indu scoffed
“If he sees your powers he will either try to kill you or try to get you to join the Death Eaters. And neither of those are favorable” It was the first time he mentioned anything about the Death Eaters to Indu but her expression didn’t change.
“Stop telling me things I know. I have already thoroughly thought through this, there is no changing my mind”
Thomas’s lips formed a straight line as he nodded once “I just hope you truly know what your getting into to”
“I do understand” Indu confirmed with a nod
“Very well” Thomas looked away from Indu to Mattheo and then at me “Here is the plan so far…”
(Y/n’s pov)
A couple hours before the ball there was a knock at the door and I opened it with the wave of my hand. I looked up from my book to see a girl who looked to be in her early 20s standing there. She had darker brown hair pulled into a higher ponytail and sweet brown eyes. She was carrying a bag that looked like it could have a dress inside.
“Hello, I am Charlotte, I will be helping you get ready for the ball” She gave a small curtsy and nod.
She pulled me out of bed and to the small vanity in the corner that I had gotten a week ago and sat me down. She got to work on my hair, she knew a charm that helped brush it out then started braiding and pinning it up into a big fancy bun. I felt weird to just sit here as someone else did my hair. I didn’t even get to choose my hairstyle.
When she was done I could feel a bunch of bobby pins sticking into my head but the girl waved her hand over my hair and suddenly I couldn't feel any of them anymore.
She moved onto my makeup, and again it felt weird to just be sitting here while someone else is putting makeup on my face, and again I didn’t get a choice of makeup and I would no doubt not get to choose my dress either.
When she was done with my makeup I opened my eyes and looked at myself in the mirror. I looked absolutely beautiful. The makeup was somewhat natural with a light copper smokey eye and burgundy lips.
I looked beautiful but it wasn’t me. It wasn’t my style. It wasn’t what I remembered I liked. It was like seeing a whole different person in the mirror staring right back at you.
She walked across the room and grabbed the bag that I thought had my dress in it and made her way back to me. She took the dress out of the bag and revealed a beautiful burgundy ball gown with black accents.
She turned away as I got undressed and slipped into the gown then held it in place as she zipped the back up. It was a little tight around the waist but I could bear it. I looked at myself in the mirror and did a little twirl. The dress moved beautifully. Everything was beautiful but it was like looking at a different person. From what I remembered and what I knew right now, I was never one to be super fancy. Sure I fancy, but not this fancy. I also had to wear stilettos which were very weird and uncomfortable. I was used to more boot heels with thick heels that were easier to walk on. I tried to convince her to let me wear some thicker heels or flats but she didn’t let me. She did however cast a spell that made them feel more comfortable and she promised I wouldn’t break my ankle.
It was almost time for the ball and I had three things on my mind. The task for my father, Thomas, and Indu.
I was pacing around in my room. I was getting used to the heels and I liked the sound they made. I was clenching my fists and grew aware of the shadows creeping in from the sides of the room and the heat coming from my hands. I was shaken out of my thoughts as Malachi entered my room. I turned to see him and he looked at me and smiled. He held a cup of tea and handed it to me “Here” He handed it to me “To help with the nerves” He looked around at the shadows surrounding them “I think you need it”
“Thanks” I smiled slightly and took a sip. It tasted different than usual but I liked the new taste. It cleared my mind and the shadows disappeared and now I had only one thing on my mind, and that was the task my father had given me. I had been a little unsure about it at first but I knew now I could do it. Now it seemed easy and I let out a small laugh. The corner of my lips pulled up into a smirk. This was going to be fun.
