TW: Mentions of smoking and drinking, cuts, blood, mentions of daggers
(Thomas’s Pov)
It had been a couple days since Malachi visited and Mattheo wasn’t taking anything well. He had tried many times to heal Theodore but the cut still remained. I had taken him to the hospital wing but there wasn’t anything they could do either, they said whatever had caused the cut had been spelled with very dark magic and it was unhealable for the time being. They offered to keep him in the hospital wing until he was awake which I ended up doing but after 4 days he still was not awake. It had been a full time job to keep Mattheo away from bottles and cigarettes though I still slipped up a couple times and last night he fell backwards down the stairs on the way up to the dorm. Lucky enuff he didn’t break anything and just needed a bit of healing for a couple of cuts.
(Y/n’s pov)
My lessons continued and Malachi told me I was close to being done. I was a lot more powerful than I had been weeks ago and the nightmares died down. Even though everything felt great, it also felt like there was a part of me missing.
One night I was sitting on my bed, reading the black leather book when I heard a familiar voice from across the room. I looked up and saw Indu in the corner, she looked like a ghost, like she wasn’t there physically. “Y/n?” She asked looking around
“Indu?” I questioned her back
“You look so different” She commented “Where am I?”
“I don’t exactly know for sure, why are you here?”
“I don’t know, I just felt like something was off, I wanted to talk to you and here I am” She explained
“I don’t think I need help with anything”
“Oh, well maybe I am just being paranoid” She crossed her arms and put her hands on her shoulders “How are you? How's Hogwarts, and your brothers?”
“I’m fine, I’m not at Hogwarts right now and how would I know about my brothers?”
“I just remembered you were decently close to your brothers when I left”
“I don’t remember much about my brothers, or Hogwarts”
“Y/n, what's going on, are you ok?”
“Yeah, I’m completely fine” I looked towards the door “Well I got to go now, but it was nice seeing you” I smiled as she disappeared with a frown and Malachi stepped into my room.
(Mattheo’s pov)
Two more days passed and Theodore was still not awake. Thomas had to force me down to breakfast because I hadn’t eaten the day before. I don’t know why but it seemed like someone had completely paused my life, days and nights blurred together and I didn’t feel like doing anything. Maybe I was just overthinking it, he was my best friend after all and Y/n was gone as well.
The headmaster suddenly got up to make an announcement “We are pleased to welcome Indu Chandra back to Hogwarts. She will be joining the fourth year Ravenclaws” The doors opened and Indu took a couple of steps, letting the door close behind her. She looked around for a second before locking eyes with me and walking towards us.
“Boys” She greeted “It’s been a long time”
“Who are you?” Liam asked
“Did you just not hear the headmaster?” She asked “I’m Indu”
“Liam” He replied
She nodded her head once before she looked at Thomas then at me. Thomas moved over and she sat down “I thought you had moved to America” I started
“I did, but I convinced my mother to let me move back”
“So she is still in America?”
“Yes”
“Is there a reason you came back?” Thomas asked
“Yes, Y/n”
“She’s not here” I replied in a flat tone, looking out the window
“I’m aware, that's why I’m here”
“If you're here to help, we have been trying to make plans for days, weeks. It’s impossible and there's a lot you don’t know”
“I learn rather quickly” She countered
“Even if we were to tell you everything, can you do something that we can’t?” Thomas asked
“I can actually name a couple things I can do that you can’t”
“Something that doesn't have to do with the fact your a female”
“I still can name a couple of things”
“Like what?” I asked glancing back at her
“Wouldn't you like to know”
“I would”
“How about the astronomy tower after lunch?” She suggested “I have to go get unpacked and do a couple other things”
“Sure, whatever” I replied.
She flipped her long hair over her shoulder before she got up from the table and left the great hall
“You didn’t have to be so mean to her” Thomas commented as he glared at me
“I wasn’t being mean” I insisted
“Well you weren't nice”
“You weren’t exactly nice either”
“So who was that?” Liam asked
“A friend of Y/n’s, she was here during Y/n’s first year but then moved to America. They are the same age” Thomas explained
One of my old friends came and sat next to me “I heard that Theodore was awake, just thought I would let you know. He’s in the common room”
We all stared at him before Thomas and I stood up and left the Great Hall.
(Y/n’s pov)
Malachi brought me breakfast again, and more tea that helped with my stress. He was looking at me for an awfully long time so I looked back at him “Is there something wrong?” I asked
He shook his head “No, just thinking”
“Oh, if I may ask, what about?”
“I have a task for you?” He said slowly, sounding unsure
“Yeah, what do you need?”
“We will talk about it later. Right now we need to do some training”
(Thomas’s pov)
Mattheo and I entered the common room to find Theodore lying on the floor next to the couch, he must have fallen off.
We went to him and he was barely breathing, his skin was pale, and his eyes were closed. Mattheo shook him lightly and Theodore opened his eyes slightly “Why are you out of the Hospital Wing? You don’t look good”
“The- There's nothing they ca- can do” He was having difficulty speaking
“Let's bring up to the dorm” I suggested and Mattheo nodded, already helping Theodore to his feet and putting an arm around him. “Do you need any help?” I asked Mattheo. He shook his head and we went up the staircase and we put him on Y/n’s bed, it being the only one with clean sheets.
Mattheo looked over him while I apparated to my room back home and grabbed a couple of potions. I gave Theodore the potions to drink and 30 minutes later he was feeling a little bit better. “What was the dagger spelled with?” Mattheo muttered. The dagger had disappeared the second we pulled it out so there was no way to find out.
“I think- I think it’s connected my magic to Malachi’s” Theodore guessed “I can feel it draining”
That would explain the pale skin I thought
“How long do you think you have before it’s all gone?” I asked quietly
“You mean before I die?” Theodore asked louder before he lowered his voice again “I don’t know, it could be weeks” He paused “Or days”
Mattheo frowned “No, we will not let that happen” He glared at me then Theodore “We will save Y/n and kill Malachi, that will fix it”
“You can’t kill Malachi” Theodore whispered
“Watch me” Mattheo countered angrily “I have killed many people, including Emerson”
“Is that something you say with pride?” I asked but Mattheo didn’t reply, he just looked away and his eyes grew wide, as if realizing something.
“Malachi wants me dead, so I will just go to him and then kill him”
“He wants us all dead” I replied
“That dagger was supposed to hit me, not Theo. Malachi wanted me dead, I’m the one that killed his brother, I’m the first one who broke free of his control, I’m also betting father wants me dead, and is just using Malachi to do that, just like our father is using Malachi to torture Y/n”
Our conversation was interrupted by a letter appearing in front of me in black smoke. It fell into my hands as we all went quiet and looked at the letter, dreading what it was going to say. Mattheo raised his eyebrows and gave me a look as if to say ‘are you going to open it?’
I looked down at the letter and opened it.
(Mattheo’s pov)
I saw Thomas’s face drop and his eyes turned crimson. I pried the letter from his hands before he ripped it or crumpled it. I held it up and read it. We were being summoned to a New Years Ball… tonight. I had completely forgotten it was New Years Eve, we didn’t even celebrate Christmas this year. Apparently Y/n was also going to be there tonight, so if we have any chance of getting her back and killing Malachi, it’s tonight.
We went to lunch then made our way to the astronomy tower to meet Indu. Let’s hope she could be of help, we really could use some.
(Theodore’s pov)
We climbed the stairs to the astronomy tower and saw Indu standing by the railing, looking over the snow covered grounds. Her hair had grown quite a lot and she had it pulled into a side braid. She turned around when she heard us with a faint smile on her face “Hello boys”
“Indu” I nodded my head at her “It’s been a long time”
“Only about a year and a half” She replied
“Well a lot has happened since you have left”
“That’s what I’ve heard, care to inform me of what has been happening?” She looked between the three of us, raising an eyebrow
“Before we tell you what's going on, we need to know that you’ll be able to help us” Thomas declared “What can you do that we can’t?”
“Can you do this?” She asked, holding her hand out, palm up. A blue-ish, white-ish orb appeared floating a couple inches above her palm then it split into three and one was sent flying slowly towards each of us. When it passed through me it didn’t hurt but, for a second, the temperature dropped greatly then it went back to normal. I looked back up at her and noticed her eyes had turned from their normal emerald green to a blue-ish white, the same color as the orb she made. A second later her eyes returned to normal.
“Wandless magic? I may not be able to do that spell but I sure can do wandless magic” Thomas commented
“It’s wandless magic, but none that you will ever have, nor is it written in any book” She explained
“Then what is it?” He asked
“It’s ancient magic, passed down from my ancestors. My mother was no witch, but her great ancestors were part of a tribe that focused heavily around the moon, and once every two or three centuries a child would be gifted with the powers of the moon, they believed it was a gift from the gods. They thought the gods hand picked these children and these children would almost become like royalty in the tribe, people went to them for advice, and to get their blessings. Sadly most of the tribe is long gone, my mother and I are a few of the last remaining descendants” She had looked away and it looked like she was daydreaming or in a trance
“So you have a gift from the gods?” Mattheo asked skeptical
“I’m not sure, that’s what they thought. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but there's no other logical explanation for my powers. My name itself means moon”
“Anything else we should know about your powers?” Thomas asked
“It’s stronger at night, especially during full moons”
“Noted” He replied “How do we know you're not lying, you only did one thing?”
“Oh I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware that this was a talent show. You just have to trust me, I have no reason to lie, I want the same as you, to get Y/n back”
The place where the dagger had hit me suddenly started to hurt again. I put my hands to my chest and could see Mattheo’s eyes on me, once he realized I was in pain he rushed over to me. I nearly collapsed in his arms, it felt like I was getting hit by a very strong spell and I could feel something moving through my body. Mattheo pulled down my shirt slightly to look at the dagger marking. My mind started flickering and I saw Mattheo tell Thomas to get Indu away. He apparated away then a couple seconds later he was back.
(Mattheo’s pov)
He was gasping for air and his dagger mark, as well as his eyes, and some of his veins were turning black. Then he started coughing up black blood.
