(Y/n’s pov)
I was left alone in the room for a week. The only time I saw anyone was when someone came to give me my meals. The meals were very small and didn’t taste that good. I got bored very quickly, I wondered what Thomas had done for all those days. I looked across the room at my reflection in the shattered mirror that was pushed into the corner. I had guessed Thomas had broken it and I felt bad for him, it must have been really hard for him. He was not used to getting pushed around, he was always one to stand above everyone else. But just like everyone else he had his flaws, and Malachi found them and pushed them to their limits.
Speaking of Malachi I thought as Malachi walked into the room and pushed a young man on the floor. The man hit his head on the floor and it looked like he got knocked out for he collapsed and didn’t move. “First lesson” He declared “Learning how to control siphoning magic out of people” He looked at the man on the floor “I want you to siphon all the magic out of him, if you don’t I will make you and then you will feel his pain ten times worse”
“What did he do to deserve this?” I asked
“Haven’t you learned anything from your father? You do what you're told and don’t ask questions” He glared at me then pointed at the man “Do it. Now”
I slowly got up and approached the man wearily. I crouched down and slowly put my hand on his shoulder. I moved my head slightly to look at Malachi standing above me, wondering if he was going to say anything “Is there a certain way to do it?” I asked quietly
“Do what feels natural first and I will tell you if you're doing it wrong” I rolled my eyes while looking away so he couldn’t see it then attempted to siphon him. I started slower until Malachi spoke up “We don’t have all day, we have a lot more to do. You will find that focusing your thoughts on the task will make it easier rather than thinking about your brothers”
A minute later the man's body went completely limp in my arms and I pulled my hand away. Malachi looked at me with a small smile, then with a wave of hand the man disappeared and Malachi motioned for me to stand up “You were too slow, next time do it a little faster or I will make the rest of your day very difficult” He glared at me “I will only warn you once more, think about your brothers any more and there will be consequences. They won't save you. They would be disobeying a direct order from the Dark Lord himself and they both know how that would turn out” He smiled as my thoughts shifted away from my brothers “Next lesson” He turned away and started walking towards the door. He motioned for me to follow him as he left the room and we made our way down a long stone hallway that seemed to go on forever.
(Thomas’s pov)
I had explained everything to Mattheo and Theodore, we had spent the week arguing about it “Why did you just leave her there, you could have done something to help her” Mattheo shouted at me
“I couldn’t do anything” I declared “I barely had any magic, He could have easily killed me if I did anything, besides even if I did do anything, it would go against fathers wishes and he would have me killed. And Y/n assured me she was ok before I left”
“That doesn't mean anything, she lies all the time, to protect us, she would do anything to get us out of the way of harm, including lying” He shouted back “And you know that, your just a coward” He spat “You follow every little order that father gives you because you don’t want to disappoint him” His eyes turned crimson
“Don’t you feel the same way about him?” I asked “Don’t you have the same fear of disappointing him? Of dying by his hand?”
“No Thomas, I don’t” He stared into my eyes “Because I have been a disappointment to him my whole life. I’m a disappointment to him. Every. Single. Day.” He paused for a second “Thomas do you ever wonder why I drink or smoke or get into fights? It’s because I don’t have a care in the world. Not after father practically disowned me. He doesn't care about me, so why should I care about him? I have nothing, no one in this world. No one except Y/n and Theodore. And you left her to be tortured, to die”
“She’s not going to die, father wants her alive”
“Did you not hear what I just said? I don’t care what father thinks or what he says, he’s a liar, he would kill any of us in a second without hesitation, including you. He doesn't see you as a Son, he just sees you as another pawn in his game of chess”
“Mattheo” Theodore stared at him blankly. I had honestly forgotten Theodore was in the room. Mattheo blinked a couple times and his eyes returned to normal but he still looked angry.
“No” I said quietly, looking at the floor “Mattheos’ right, I’m weak” I was expecting a sarcastic reply or something, mocking me for admitting that. When all I heard was silence I looked up slightly and saw Mattheo and Theodore’s eyes on me, their faces shocked. I don’t know why I continued talking but I did “you’re right, I should have saved her, done something. I should have saved her and died in the process, I bet you would have been happy about that”
(Mattheo’s pov)
I stared at him. I felt regret flood my senses as he stared back at me, his eyes black. There were shadows surrounding his hands and feet. Malachi must have really messed with his mind if he was now thinking and talking like this. I was so stupid to let my anger get the best of me.
He reached for his dagger but I quickly pulled it away and grabbed his hand, getting into his head and knocking him out. I usually wasn’t able to knock him out but he was weaker. I slowly lowered him to the ground before setting him down and standing back up. I eventually put him on his bed and waited for him to wake up. Theodore left for a bit but was back 20 minutes later. Thomas opened his eyes and looked at me “I’m sorry” I started “I shouldn't of said those things”
“No you are right” He sat up
“Please don’t go and get yourself killed, we wouldn’t be able to live without you. And if not for me, do it for Y/n. But I am sorry about what I said, I wasn’t able to control my anger”
He nodded his head once “I accept your apology and we need to come up with a plan to save Y/n. Before we tear each other apart”
(Y/n’s pov)
A couple more days passed, I was sure Christmas had passed by now, but I wouldn’t know, Malachi never told me what day it was.
Everyday he had me do the same things. Work on siphoning, dark magic, and then he would torture me and fill my mind with negitive thoughts. It was a never ending cycle and I barely got any sleep, or if I did it was plagued with nightmares.
One morning he brought breakfast to me and handed me a teacup “Drink it” He demanded
When I didn’t drink it he forced me to, then he spelled me and caused me to choke. It was almost like drinking too much Firewhisky, my mind went blank and numb. I felt like I had forgotten everything. I knew I was trying to remember something, someone… it was just outside my reach but the harder I concentrated to remember, the more difficult it became, the more I forgot what I was searching for in the first place. All I could remember now was this place, Malachi, my father, and his goals. I knew I had brothers but they weren’t here and I don’t remember their faces or them, just their names. I knew a couple other names… Theodore, Liam… but I couldn’t put the names to faces or charistics.
Malachi smiled at me for some reason and I finished my food before we started lessons. I don’t know why, but all of a sudden everything was easier… it was almost like I wasn’t held back by anything anymore. At the end of the day he let me keep the black leather book to practice the spells on my own. I had gotten very good at wandless magic, I couldn’t do everything obviously, but I was getting better. Siphoning was also easier now, it was almost addicting.
The next morning I was awoken by Enzo bringing me breakfast. He looked at me and his expression was almost sad “Are you ok?” I asked him
“Yeah I’m fine, it’s just you look so different” He paused for a second “I have also come to tell you that I’m going back to Hogwarts so you won't see me around anymore”
I frowned “Oh, well I hope you have fun?” I wasn’t really sure what to say.
He smiled slightly and gave me a little nod “Yep”
He turned and disappeared out into the hallway.
(Theodore’s pov)
We were all sitting in the common room around midnight. I was sitting by the fire on an armchair while Mattheo and Thomas were on one of the couches. No one else was in the common room and we had been talking about a plan to get Y/n back.
Suddenly Enzo walked into the room and I stood up then Mattheo and Thomas a second later. Mattheo locked eyes with Enzo then appeared next to him and pushed him into the wall while Enzo put his hands up “I come in peace” He choked out
“Mattheo, let the boy speak” Thomas declared and Mattheo took one more second before pushing him into the wall and letting go, he stepped back and watched as Enzo fell to the floor and caught his breath.
Enzo slowly got up, putting his hands in the air “I don’t have much time, Malachi still has me under control but I need to tell you that there is no saving her, Malachi gave her a potion that made her forget about you” Mattheo clenched his fists and looked like he was about to punch him before Thomas stopped him. “Since she has forgotten about you she has become more willing to do what Malachi wants. There is no saving her”
He suddenly fell back to the ground and started breathing heavily and started coughing until he was coughing up blood. “Enzo” I crouched down to help him but a voice spoke up.
“Don’t touch him, or you’ll be next” I pulled my hands back and looked to the common room doorway where Malachi stood. Suddenly Thomas fell to the ground and Enzo pulled me back into him and put a dagger in front of my throat and pulled my hands behind me. Malachi twirled a dagger in his hand and it glowed for a second before it flew towards Mattheo. Everything moved in slow motion as I pushed off of Enzo causing the dagger to make a cut across my throat, then I apparated in front of Mattheo and the dagger logged itself in my shoulder. I fell back and Mattheo caught me as I fell to the ground and Malachi and Enzo disappeared.
He set me down on the ground and looked into my eyes, my vision was faltering. “Why did you do that?” He asked
“I don’t know, I wasn’t thinking, I just couldn't take the chance it would kill you. Y/n needs you alive”
“Yeah but she also needs you” He replied
My eyes started to get droopier and Mattheo swore under his breath as everything went black.
