(Thomas’s pov)
It was a bit past midnight and the room was pitch black besides a dim candle on the side table that gave way to little light. I was lying awake on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. The air was cold and still.
I suddenly heard a commotion outside, coming from the long hallway just outside my doors. I heard voices, muffled by the wall, then a couple people running down the hall. One of my doors opened, revealing Malachi's smug face that held unknown secrets. I sat up and noticed him holding something in his hands but it was too dark to make out until he came closer and held up the black leather book that I had hid in my room. How had he managed to find it, how had he gotten his hands on it, it had been sealed with blood magic- unless… unless Y/n or Mattheo had gotten it or possibly my father but I didn’t think he knew anything about it.
I glared at him as he smirked at me “It was Y/n” He answered, invading my weak mind. “Don’t worry, she’s ok” He sighed and I looked down “For now” I glared back up at him as he backed up towards the door he continued talking “you’ll get to see her in a little bit, but until then-” He didn’t finish his sentence, just gave a small nod and left the room, the door shut after him.
(Mattheo’s pov)
The next morning Y/n didn’t show up to any of the meals so I asked Theodore and he told me about their talk last night “I haven't heard from her since, you want to check her room?”
“It can’t hurt to check” I replied and apparated to her room. I called out to her but she wasn’t there. I checked the balcony, then the astronomy tower, the library, and even the forest but I didn’t see her anywhere. I tried to find her mind but she was either too far away or blocking me out. I apparated back to the house and looked everywhere, but I still couldn’t find her.
(Y/n’s pov)
I opened my eyes to find myself sitting, tied against a wall in a circular room, in the middle of the room Malachi was standing with a smirk on his face and the black leather book in his hand. He looked up from the book and his eyes met mine “Oh good, you're finally up” He said in a cheery tone.
“Why are you doing this, what do you get out of this other than more blood on your hands?”
“Oh, you’re going to regret asking that” His smile widened “At first I just wanted to get back at Thomas which, I’ll admit was so childish of me, but now, it’s because of two different reasons” He paused “One, for trying to find a way to kill me when you know you could never kill me, also the fact you broke Mattheo and Theodore out of the spell. And two, because your father offered me a task I couldn't turn down”
“What does he want?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know” He replied with a smirk
“Yes, I actually would”
“First you tell me how you were seeing Thomas?”
“I don’t know, it was like going into a dream”
“Hmm” He thought for a second before mumbling something under his breath “Your father thinks you have makings to be a great” He paused “Leader of sorts”
“Even if that is so, which would mean he’s planning on dying soon, why would you help?”
“Currently you have too many attachments, you’re too kind, there's a few things you need to learn to reach your full potential, and that includes embracing the siphon part, and of course darker magic. You have the makings but your just not there yet”
“Still, why would you help with that?” I tried not to sound scarred
“I might not support all of it, but this is a request from the Dark Lord we are talking about, I would never turn that down, and I also get to slightly torture you, so thats fun at lest”
(Thomas’s pov)
I couldn’t fall back asleep after Malachi came into my room. I was kept up with the thoughts of what Malachi could do to Y/n. A couple minutes later my doors opened and Malachi came in followed by Y/n carried by two guards. They put her down against the wall by the door and the two guards left. I sat up and turned to face Malachi “What did you do?”
“It’s none of your business just know the little deal I had with your father changed”
“Changed how?”
“Like I told you it's none of your business but if you really must know, ask Y/n when she gets up” He pivoted on his feet and left the room, closing the doors behind him. I immediately got out of bed and went over to Y/n. She didn’t have any cuts or bruises which was surprising but I was sure there were other things wrong. I picked her up, carried her to the bed, and set her down.
A couple of hours later I was pacing and thinking when her eyes flickered open and she sat up, looking around the room. Her eyes moved to look at me and I turned my head away, not knowing how she would react to my face.
(Y/n’s pov)
“Thomas?” I asked, standing up slowly and walking over to him.
He turned his head more “Y/n” He replied
“Why won't you look at me? Did I do something?”
“No, you didn’t do anything”
I put my hand on his shoulder and forced him to turn around so I could see his face. His face was paler than I had ever seen it, his eyes were the darkest I had ever seen before, and his hair was messy, probably from running his hands through it too many times without brushing it. His clothes also were messed up and had wrinkles in them. He looked terrible. He looked down at the ground, trying to avoid eye contact. My hand had dropped from his shoulder but I pulled him back into a tight hug and after a couple of seconds he hugged me back. I looked back up at his face and saw a tear roll down his cheek. I pulled him in tighter and whispered in his ear “Thomas, it’s ok” He pulled back and wiped the tear away. I smiled a little “It’s good to see you in person again, thought I admit I wish it wasn’t here”
He let out a light chuckle and the corners of his mouth turned up just a little bit “Yeah, me too” He looked back down at the ground again before clearing his throat and looking back into my eyes “So, why are you here, what happened?”
I told him about everything. About me, about Mattheo, and a couple other people. I especially told him about the spell Malachi used to make our powers act up and about the reason I took the book from his room, then how Malachi found out and brought me here. He nodded his head every once in a while and asked a couple of questions. “And what about Malachi’s deal with father, what changed”
“Well what was the original deal?”
“The original deal was as long as I stay here, away from Hogwarts and away from you and Mattheo, Malachi wouldn’t be able to hurt you guys”
“Well that didn’t exactly end up happening”
Thomas nodded “Yeah, so what has changed?”
I looked down “Uh father wants him to teach me to master the siphon part of me as well as teach me dark magic, among a couple other things”
I saw him clench his fists “Why?”
“Apparently father thinks I have ‘the makings to be a great leader’” I replied, shrugging my shoulders
“What? Like take his place if he dies?”
“I don’t know, maybe” I was starting to feel a little bit uncomfortable with the conversation and Thomas realized this and grew quiet.
He stood up and took a couple of steps but lost his balance and put his hand against the bed frame. I went to help him but he put his hand up “I’m fine” He assured me
“It’s your magic, isn’t it. Or lack of it, Malachi has taken most of your magic”
He stayed silent for a second before nodding his head slightly “I think it is”
“I could help you, I could give you some of my magic” I offered
“No, you need it to survive here”
“Thomas, I insist” He looked over at me and shook his head. I walked over to him and grabbed his hand. He didn’t protest, he knew he couldn’t persuade me otherwise. I thought of the same thing as before, the magic flowing out of me and into him. It didn’t hurt as much as last time but it still did sting a little bit. After a couple seconds I pulled away and practically fell down onto the bed. Thomas turned to face me, concern filling his face.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine, just not used to it, it’s kinda draining” I smiled slightly but he did not return the smile.
He was about to say something but Enzo walked into the room and looked at Thomas “Thomas, Malachi wishes to speak with you, you will be leaving”
“Why?”
“Because you are no longer of use or importance to me” Malachi walked into the room behind Enzo “The deal has changed, as you know” he tapped his foot impatiently “Now let's go”
Thomas took a couple steps forward then looked back at me. I nodded once to say I would be fine. He turned back around and followed Malachi out the door. Enzo followed shortly behind, closing the door on his way out.
(Mattheo’s pov)
I was pacing around my dorm when Thomas appeared behind me. I turned around and was about to say something before I saw what he looked like. He looked awful. “What the heck happened to you?” I asked, not caring if I sounded rude
“Malachi” I replied “Father made a deal with him, as long as I was with Malachi, Malachi couldn’t go near you, but I have learned that wasn’t the case”
“How long have you been with him?”
“Since I left”
I raised an eyebrow “And why did he let you go?”
“There was a change in the deal” He looked away before looking back at me “He has Y/n now, and if we don’t find a way to get her out of there soon, she’s not going to be the same person when she comes back”
