Halloween was tomorrow and it seemed as if the whole school was filled with excitement. I however was not excited like how I usually was. Ever since I had gotten the bracelet stuck on my wrist I had been feeling weaker, angrier, and useless. I had been skipping more classes than ever, there was no point in going to them anyway. I honestly was thinking about skipping the Slytherin Halloween party if just to avoid Malachi and Emerson who would no doubt be there. 

I was in the library with Theodore after dinner. I was working on an essay while Theodore was reading. He closed the book and glanced up at me “It’s getting to be late” He yawned “I’m going to head back to the common room. You want to come with?” 

“I’m almost finished with this” I replied “Go, I will meet you in a little bit” 

He nodded his head and left. I went to grab some books when I noticed Emerson walking up to me. I turned around to leave but he called out to me “Y/n stop, I just want to talk to you” 

I slowly turned back around to face him “What do you want?” I asked annoyed 

“I’m sorry about how I have been acting, I wanted to apologize” He smiled slightly “Can you give me a chance?” 

“Take this bracelet off then maybe I’ll consider it” I replied holding up the arm with the bracelet

“I can’t do that” 

“Then no” I frowned and shook my head 

I was about to turn around again but grabbed my shoulder “Please?” 

I removed his hand from my shoulder “I said no” 

“Y/n are you coming?” A voice came from behind me. I turned to see the boy who was in Charms class last year. He was at the end of the asle and started walking towards me. He glanced at Emerson “Emerson” He nodded his head towards him then turned to me “Did you find the books?” He asked me 

“Yeah” I smiled, playing along “Let’s go” I looked back at Emerson “See you around” I turned around and left the library with the boy. 

Once we were out of the library I thanked him. “It’s no problem, it just seemed like you wanted to leave” He replied 

“It’s Leo, right?” I asked “Leo the Hufflepuff” I laughed

He smiled “You remembered” 

“Well it’s hard to forget a person such as yourself”  

We parted ways and I made my way to the Slytherin common room. I walked in and found Theodore drinking on the couch and Mattheo standing by the window smoking.

“You're smoking in the common room?” I asked, coming down the steps

He turned around slowly and faced me “Do you have a problem with that?” He asked coldly. Something was off, he was acting differently then he usually did and my mood changed. 

I stormed up to him and grabbed the cigarette out of his hand then put it out “Yes, I have a problem with that” He rolled his eyes then pushed past me and disappeared up the stairs. I sighed “what's up with him” I asked Theodore and he just shrugged, practically falling off the couch in the process. I rolled my eyes, great, he was probably drunk. 

I suddenly heard a noise from a dark corner of the room. I turned to face the corner and saw Malachi standing in the corner, smirking. “You did this. Somehow” 

He pushed off the wall and and held up his hands “Gilty as charged” 

“Why?” 

“Why what? I think the real question is why do you care so much about him. Is he your best friend, your boyfriend?” He paused, “Your brother?” 

I didn’t reply 

“And if he’s your brother then that means Thomas is your brother” He kept taking steps towards me, coming out from the darkness. 

My hand slowly started moving to my dagger

He noticed and frowned “Don’t” He pulled out his wand and pointed it at me. He muttered something and all I could pick up was something about Thomas. He waved his wand and I could tell he cast a silencing spell. He waved his wand again and I was sent flying across the room into a wall. I saw Theodore get up and stumble up the stairs. With another wave I felt pain everywhere. It hurt worse than anything I had ever felt before. It felt like I was on fire and my body and mind were being pulled in a million different directions. Voices screamed in my head and my vision went blurry. 

I felt someone's hands on me and a couple seconds later the pain stopped but I still was sore all over. I heard shouting before everything went black.
