I stared at the paper in awe and confusion.
"Professor, I don't understand. You'd like me to start a dance team?" I asked.
"Yes. I have seen how you dance and understand you are missing your old dance community back in the Muggleworld." She smiled.
"Thank you for this opportunity but where would be practice, and would we be able to comptete against other schools and Muggle companies as well?" I asked.
"Yes, of course. I believe I should mention that Beauxbatons and Durmstrang both have their own dance teams. And I suppose I can arrange for your team to compete aganist Muggles. Without the use of magic, of course." McGonagall stated.
"Oh, Professor, dancing isn't dancing with magic, but thank you! I shall go post this immediately." I smiled and left.
I found Filch patrolling the halls and asked for a hammer and nail. He did give me a weird look before handing me the items and asking for his hammer to be brought back.
I hurried to find the best place to hang the paper. I decided the Great Hall would be the best, since everyone goes there one time or another. Once posted, I returned to my dorm to prepare for tryouts.
On Saturday, I stood in my usual practice leotard, tights, and skirt in the Great Hall as I waited for students to come. I really hoped people would come try out.
Soon, students from each house came pouring into the Hall, all wearing various loose and stretchy clothing. Once I was sure no one else was coming, I started the tryouts.
"Hello everyone! As you may know, I'm Celeste Lovemare, and I and thrilled that you all came here to tryout. Before we start, I'd like you to know what I'm looking for in a dancer. Flexibility, strength, agility, and most importantly, passion. With that said, I'd like you to take these numbers, pin it on your front and get ready to dance." I announced.
I started some music and began to teach a simple dance sequence. I ran it throught with them several times before having them do it on their own.
I watched closely at everyone. I smiled at several girls and the few boys that came, I knew I had found several keepers.
I continued this process after I had gotten through all genres of dance except tap.
"Thank you everyone! Thank you for your cooperation and hardwork. YOu all my have a seat. Now, I believe I forgot to mention that I will have two teams, JV and Varsity. When I call your number, please stand." I announced.
Several whipsers rippled through the Hall, but I ignored them and began calling out numbers.
"2, 8, 11, 15, 17, 20, 21, 27, 30, 34, 36, 40, and 45. You thirteen have been chosen for my JV team. Please remain after tryouts are over. I will now call out my Varsity team."
I looked around as my chosen few took a seat. I saw many hopeful eyes. It hurt me to know that I would crush someone's hopes, but that's how it works.
"49, 50, 55, 59, 63, 69, 71, 76, 80, 81, 90, 94, and 100. You are my Varsity team. Thank you again to everyone who participated. If you were not chosen, do not fret, There's alway next year. When my seventh years leave, there will be openings for more."
Everyone chattered away as they made theyir way out. My teams stayed and I waited until everyone had gone.
"Alright, congratulations! You are my JV and Varsity teams! I will explain what they mean later. But for now, I'd like you to fill out these papers with your name, age, year, and house as well as your preferred means of contact. I will be working on a practice schedule and send it to you soon." I announed.
"What made you want to start this dance team, Celeste?" A young RavenClaw girl asked.
"Well, part of it was me missing spending time with my Muggle friends at my old dance studio, but also part of it was Professor McGonagall. She noticed how much I love dancing and decided this would help me not miss my studio so much." I smiled.
Soon everyone had filled out the papers.
"Thank you everyone. Be on the lookout for your letter by Monday evening. Also, be thinking of possible uniforms we could make to wear when we peform for both home and away competitions." I said as they left.
I packed up my things and headed back to my dorm. There I took a look at the lists.
