Chapter 7
It had been several months since the start of school and I had grown quite comfortable dancing in the empty classroom. It was almost Chirstmas break and I had grown tired of that classroom.
I always found it challenging to dance in the cold. Besides the temperature, I feel it challenges me to work harder and longer.
So that's where I was one Monday morning, just after my first class. I was dressed in nothing but my leotard, footless tights, and skirt. I had my hair tied up in a bun. That day I decided to practice for Modern.
As a present for my birthday, my parents sent over a new Muggle device called a MP3 player, which plays music once you download them onto it. So I had my earbuds in my ears, music flowing into my ears, filling me with dancing juice, as I like to call it.
Moving with the music, I danced out in the courtyard. Snow fell around me, callenging me to keep dancing on the snow.
It wasn't until I felt hands touch my shoulders that I noticed Professor McGonagall had arrived. I stopped and removed my earbuds.
"Miss Lovemare! What in Merlin's beard possessed you to be out here? And without proper clothing?! Why, your skin is turning blue!" She cried.
"I was only dancing. Practicing in the cold helps be challenge myself to be a better dancer." I answered.
"Well, as a teacher, I would advise that you stay in your classroom as you practice. Look around at your surroundings." Professor Snape appeared.
I took a look around and saw that the entire school was watching me dance. I flushed red out of embarrassment.
"I'm sorry Professors. I'll go inside now." I whispered and hurried away.
I reached my room and locked the door. I hit myself over and over as a punishment for my foolishment. As much as dancing is to be shown to others, I didn't want anyone to watch me practice. Performing is one thing but when someone watches me when my dance is not perfected, I don't like it. It's like a dancer's insecurity.
I dressed in my robes and ventured to my next class. I could feel my classmates stare at me as I walked to my seat in the front. Even Professor Sinistra stared at me as I got my books out.
The entire class period felt like an eternity. I hardly payed attention as the only thing I could focus on was the fact the ENTIRE school had watched my practice.
When class finally ended, I hurried over to the Qudditch pitch. And just my luck, I forgot that my class was with Slytherin.
"Madame Hooch, may I be excused from flying today? My head isn't all there today, and I fear I might mess up." I asked my professor.
"Unfortunately, no, not today dear. Although I would most definitely say yes, in this case we are learning something very important, so I need you present." She replied.
"But-" I began. She cut me off.
"I'm aware of your show earlier today in the courtyard, but you musn't let that keep you from classes. Now, join the rest of the class please."
I sighed and found my broom. Right next to a Slytherin. Great. Dedworth's younger brother, Corvin.
"Fancy seeing you here, Lovemare. I surely thought you would shy away like other Hufflepuffs like you." Dedworth grinned.
"Leave her alone, Dedworth. I'm sure you'd do the same if you were caught doing something you'de want non one to know about." A Slytherin girl, as I remembered her name to be Daphne Miller, said.
"What, are you siding with this embarrassment, Miller? Which side are you on?" Dedworth grimaced.
"I'm not on either side. I'm only saying it's not nice to taunt others if you don't want the same to happen to you." Miller scowled.
"Don't stick up for her, she can speak up for herself. Besides, she's a Hufflepuff. Us Slytherins never allow ourselves to get caught." Dedworth smirked as if he won the battle.
"Just leave her alone alright? It's bad enough that she decided to dance in the courtyard, you don't need to rub it in." Miller said.
"Whatever." Dedworth rolled his eyes and turned his attention to Madame Hooch.
I did as well, but I had a hard time focusing. Dedworth was right. I allowed myself to get caught.
"Hey, don't listen to Dedworth. You were only doing what you loved. By the way, your dancing is beautiful." Miller whispered to me. She stood my my left while Dedworth was on my right.
"Thanks, Miller. You didn't have to do that." I whispered back.
"It's fine. Not all of Slytherin are jerks like him. Oh, and you can call me Daphne." Daphne smiled. I smiled back.
After class, I began to return to my dorm. Professor McGonagall stopped me halfway there.
"Miss Lovemare, please follow me. I'd like to have a word with you."
I wordlessly followed her to her office.
"It has come to my attention that you enjoy dancing enough to put yourself through embarrassment." She began. I felt my cheeks flush red again at the mention of it.
"I've brought you here to give you this." Prfossor handed me a piece of paper.
