Chapter 6
As I mentioned earlier, I am a dancer. I suppose some things are not quite so different between the Muggleworld and the Magic world.
Ever since I was three, I've been taking all the dance classes I could. Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Modern. Seven classes each week. It sure gets tiring, but I love it.
When I woke up the next morning, I dressed in my unifrom and put on my robes. I then headed to breakfast.
When I arrived, I found a seat at my table and glanced at the food. Mostly pastries and some fruit options. I chose one Treacle tart and a glass of pumpkin juice. I loeaded my plant with grapes and an apple. Again, my plate caught the attention of other housemates.
"Are you sure you are going to be full with that? Classes can be hard, you know." Gareth Williams, a fourth year asked me.
"Yes, I'll be full. I eat this all the time. A dancer must keep a steady diet and keep their body looking slim and strong." I answered.
Gareth hummed in response and returned to his plate. It diddn't take me long to finish my food, I ventured off to my first class, Herbology.
I smiled upon entering the greenhouse. Plants of all kinds were growing everywhere.
"Oh, hello, dear! Are you Celeste Lovemare, in my first year class?" A plump lady asked.
"Yes ma'am." I answered shyly. She beamed.
"It's nice to meet you. I'm Professor Sprout."
"Such a fitting name for a job like this. Please, can you tell me more about this plant?" I smiled, pointing to a brown, root-y like plant.
"Oh, that is a Mandrake. Unfortunately, we won't do much with them this year."
She and I talked until the rest of the students arrived. Far too soon did Herbology end. I fell in love with that class, and decided I would most definitely take it all seven years.
Because of me living with Muggles, my parents decided it be best that I only take a few classes. I know my mum fought hard with the staff to allow me to take any class but anything dealing with magic and defense. So I will be taking only Herbology, Flying, and Astromomy. My parents deemed those classes safe. I don't believe any of the classes I'm taking are 'safe'. You could fall of your broom if you're not paying attention, or get a rash from a plant in the W.H.I.Ps category.
Because of this, I had two hours of free time. I decided to use it wisely and went in search of Professor McGonagall.
"Professor, since I have two hours before my next two classes, would it be allowed for me to use an empty classroom to practice for dance?" I asked, as we strolled down a hallway.
"Of course my dear. We have plenty of unused classrooms. Feel free to find one on the third floor. Just let me know which you choose, and I'll make sure to tell Filch of your activites." Professor McGonagall smiled warmly at me.
We parted ways and I went in search of a classroom.
Let's pause the story here, shall we? I did say this is a story of a witch in the Muggleworld.
I have yet to experience a dance class within the magical community, so I'll tell you all about my experience with Muggles.
Muggles, I could say, are funny. Especially my dance instructors. If one young witch or wizard were told to imagine a piece of dark colored tape on the wall to keep their eye one, I'm sure that witch or wizard would be confused. As I've seen so far, with magic, you can stick things on the wall. Muggles use a sticky material called tape to keep things on walls.
"Dance like you are floating on a cloud," My ballet teacher, Miss Polly always said. This might be funny to both communities, since I don't believe it's possible to even stand on a cloud, magic or not.
But I always loved my classes and my teachers, even if some of the other dancers seemed weird. Especially this one girl who always thought it would be better to have enchanted tap shoes. At the time, no one believed it could happen. But I know it can, yet will I ever give it a chance? Nope! I love tap dancing just the way it is.
Muggles use these special shoes, called tap shoes, for that dance genre. They are like any other kind of shoe. A pair of boots, a pair of heels, a pair of street shoes, specifially Mary Jane. All they need is a shaped piece of metal nailed or screwed down onto the sole of the shoes, one at the toes, and another at the heel. To keep your tap shoes in tip top shape, you must never dance in them on a surface that will with scratch the metal or the shoes. And I'm sure that one's mother would not be happy with her wodden floors being covered with scrapes and scratches from hours of dancing.
The other genres of dance are simple. Ballet is about moving gracefully, while keeping a stiff posture. Modern is ballet but less stiff. Modern allows for dancers to dance with lose clothing and bare feet with the focus of the body movement in the upper back.
Hip hop uses upbeat music and groving to the beat. Special dance moves are only used in this style and some of them are pretty hard. Jazz is a sassy, yet graceful ballet style. Contemporary and Lyrical are a lot like Modern and Ballet. They both are graceful in their movements, and free flowing. But Lyrical dances to the lyrics of a song, and Contemporary is like any other dance style, expressing one's emotions through dancing.
Enough with that. I can tell you my embarrassing encounter with literally the entire school. Or I could make you wait in suspense.
